Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While it is possible SETI@home could succeed, it seems unlikely to me that a race advanced alien race would be using radio to communicate. Passing alien crafts would be unlikely to trace or verify if they were using radio. Aside from all this, even if we detected an artificial signal from space, it would be next to impossible to derive meaning from it, and unless the star were close by, it would take far too long to reply (even if we had powerful enough equipment to do so).

However, just the possibility that there could be intelligent life out there should be enough to make us search every way possible. Verified proof could ignite a paradigm shift that this planet is in desperate need of. Aside from that, the technologies and science developed in searching will benefit all.
