Personal background
I'm 36 and live in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, in Scotland: an area steeped in the history of Sir William Wallace and Robert, The Bruce. Stirling Castle is within 13 miles and the sites of the battles of Bannockburn, Falkirk and Stirling Bridge are also very close. Falkirk is within an hour's drive of Glasgow and half-an-hour's drive of Edinburgh.

I've only recently returned to this my home area, where I was born and educated. I spent nearly fifteen years in London - a great time for me as I made friends from around the globe, many of whom I keep in constant touch by e-mail.

This SETI project has been mentioned on television here and a friend of mine knew about it and that's how I found out how to take part.

I work locally in a call centre at the moment, but wish to find a job in Edinburgh and live there too. My career has been mostly project management and this is the area to which I would most wish to return.

My interests include classical music (I presented a classical programme for a local radio station for about 11 years in London) and writing. It has always been a dream that the latter might become a career, but there never seems to be enough time to get into it properly.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe extraterrestrial life exists and also believe that we are more likely to discover it by this sort of contact rather than a visit from a fleet of flying saucers.

Unfortunately, as our radio signals have only reached 70 or so miles into space, I think it unlikely that we will receive a "reply" within my lifetime, but I remain hopeful.

This is why I feel it important to take part in this project, the processing power required to examine all signals is immense and obviously the more computers that can be harnessed, the better.
