Profile: Paul D. Way

Personal background
I obtained my MS in Environmental Science at Texas Christian University. I am currently seeking a job in this field. I obtained my BA in Biology (minor in Computer Science) at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. I am interested in Geographic Info. Systems and how they can be used to gain a greater understanding of the environment.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As a student of science I cannot say one way or the other that ET life exists. No one has proved to me that ET life exists or does not but from my understanding of life and how life evolved from very simple units that it would be very odd indeed if earth was the only planet in the universe that has life. It may be a very long time before humans have the ability to discover ET life especially since there does not seem to be any ET life in our solar system (albeit there may primitive ET life (bacteria, etc.) that we have yet to discover...). I think movies have shown in an imaginary sense both the benefits and dangers to ET discoveries so any thought I may have probably have already been explored in some way. {I feel sorry for the poor friendly alien that attempts contact for I am afraid that we would shoot first and ask questions later.}

I run SETI@home partly because I think the concept that SETI uses to crunch large amounts of data is a very efficient way to get the job done. Also I think the discovery of ET life through radio broadcasts is an interesting approach to ET life exploration.
