Personal background
Born in 1939. Spent my first 27 years in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, moved to Edmonton, Alberta, married a nurse from Ottawa. I worked with aspiring actors, directors and designers at the University of Alberta, Dept. of Drama, Edmonton, for many years. Moved to Victoria, British Columbia in '82, got into Real Estate, then Computer Sales and Service, and managed a Computer store. Now retired and busier than ever. My wife Marg and I are still together after 36 happy years.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI because the very thought that we humans are the only intelligent life form in the universe is preposterous. But millions believe that to be the case. I want to help prove them wrong! And the way to do that is to find ET. Since we are unable to travel out to find them, then SETI will have to do; for now!

Thoughts about ET
We_are_not_unique! There is plenty of evidence that many millions of other planets revolve around other stars. Undoubtedly many will support life and many, intelligent life. Any intelligent beings out there have had to deal with the same science with which we deal.
Sure, it could be dangerous to try to contact "them"; but it's already too late , we've been sending them our TV programmes; reason enough for them to say, "exterminate them"!
But for a civilization to have survived to the point where they just may be able to communicate with us, or even to visit us, means that they have managed to evolve and to live together for thousands of years with no fully-catastrophic wars.
That knowledge, that we are not alone in the universe, may help us try to live at peace on earth while awaiting ET's arrival! We can only hope!
And no, I do NOT believe they are among us NOW! But I DO believe that we WILL contact them, or they us, soon!
