Profile: PsiloShaman

Personal background
I am a freelance researcher, writer, artist, anarchist, photojournalist, political activist, and shaman -- husband of one and father of two. I have 4 tattoos, and in the spirit of primitivism, plan many more over the course of my life. I live to explore and evolve. Embrace the unknown.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am utterly convinced of the existence of extraterrestrial life. I think the operative question is not whether they exist, but: are they similar enough to us (in 'biology', 'time', 'space', 'technology' and 'dimension') in order to communicate, or for that matter, care to communicate. For instance, there are very few instances of instense study of inter species communication... John Lilly with dolphins, and several other researchers with primates. Neither has been terribly enlightening.

If SETI only shows other entities/civilizations that we desire to communicate/listen, this might be the critical piece of data that tips the scales in favor of a timespace "encounter" between species... and I find that very exciting.

I think that humans are on the verge of great things (if we can avoid the terrible ones), and an explicit, documented encounter with an extraterrestrial civilization would give us, and our children, some much needed perspective in the coming millenia.

I run SETIatHome because I cannot stand waste. My computers run nearly 24/7, and 'eye candy' screensavers that no-one sees just don't cut it for me. When I am using my P4/2 gHZ, more often than not, I'm surfing or writing in Notepad (I do also render 3d and edit nonlinear video, but not full time). As long as we're consuming the power (and the natural resources consumed in the manufactyure of that power), we'd better be using it for a good cause. I see SETI as one of many good causes that spare CUP cycles can and should be dedicated to.
