More About Me:
I have a great job as an analyst programmer working for IBM GSA in Ballarat. I am currently in a graduate position and will be until around February 2003.

I love watching movies and am a bit of a movie buff. I also love music and listen to heaps of it. I love Anime and cartoons but I also watch lots of other shows. Lastly I like to read, but not as much as I used to. Nowadays I prefer to play on my computer and enjoy partaking in the destrcution of sprites!!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is alien life out there....I should know, I have been abducted 13 times. I here them coming, they are coming to destroy us. They are testing us to find out how to kill us. THEY ARE COMING. THE END IS NIGH!!!!!!!!!!!

hehehe...not really!

In the infinite universe in which we live, it would be extremely naieve of us to believe that the wonder of evolution only graced this planet. Because of this, I believe their are alien lifeforms out there somewhere. I dont think that we will find them though. I think they will find us. We have been looking at the stars for many years now, and if we haven't found them now, then they are either extremely simple and dont know how to send a signal, or they dont want to be found. However, I do believe that we should continue to listen, just in case.

As for benefits we could gain from an alien race....well we could gain huge amounts of knowledge and cool gadgets that James Bond would be proud of. We coule radically advance our space travell capabilites. How else could they get here right? As for dangers, well most of us have seen Independence Day right?

I think humans should tranmit a beacon of some type. It might help expediate our discovery. As for what that tranmission should be, I think it should be using maths or pictures of some kind as they are universal languages. It would be silly to think that an alien race could read any of our languages, even though they all seem to in Star Trek!

I run SETI@Home coz it is the best use of my unused CPUS cycles since Napster...I also want to check more packets than anyone (as if that is gonna happen). But I also find the whole subject of distributed computing interesting. This program is an awsome launching pad to further develop technology in this area. Because comptuers are so prevelant these days, utilising them like this will have many benefits for the future.
