Profile: Royce Edwards

Personal background
I was born in New York City in the winter of 1960. Currently, I live in the neighboring state of New Jersey in the United States of America. I'm separated waiting like most separated people for the day my divorced becomes final. I have a 15 year old daughter who is an equestrian, and volunteer as the Webmaster for the largest Dressage and Eventing group in the North East of the US (www.esdcta.org). I work as a computer consultant, mostly in the systems administration and web development arena.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that other life exists in the Universe. I also believe that it may be a very long time before we are discovered by them. We live in an age where scientists are still making remarkable discoveries. During 2002 astronomers found several new moons in our own Solar System. If discoveries this significant are just being made, we have yet to scratch the surface of what the Universe has to offer.

Some people ask if we should transmit a beacon for others to find, however, the question is not really accurate. Our TV and radio signals continue to bounce about the Universe, our space probes drift into deep space, and our planet generates a very strong thermal signature for someone who is looking.

I run the SETI at home software so that research can continue using resources that would be otherwise wasted.
