Profile: Daniel Rice

Personal background
I am a 22 year old student of Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, originally from Newfoundland. I am, and always have been, interested in space, the final frontier. Of course, I am a Trekkie so to totally complete my space nerdiness, I would have to participate in SETI. As well, I am eagerly awaiting the day that space travel comes to the masses, but in the meantime, when I graduate I intend to put an astronaut application into the Canadian Space Agency.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Definitely among the greatest questions man has ever posed..."Are we alone in the universe?"

Well, I have long been a fan on Douglas Adam's sentiment that
the population of the universe is zero. It is known that
there are an infinite number of worlds but that not every
one of them is inhabited. Therefore there must be a finite
number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by
infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds. So if
every planet in the universe has a population of zero then
the entire population of the universe must also be zero.
And any people you may meet from time to time are merely the
products of a deranged imagination.

That being said, I most definitely think that there a many
products of deranged imaginations out there waiting for us
to find them, but I don't know when. I hope in my lifetime,
that's why I'm running SETI@home.
