Personal background
Hello. I am 19 years old, and am currently employed by the Athabasca University (ICAAP) in Alberta, Canada, as a programmer. My duties are widely varying, from XML development, to swapping disks in servers. My hobbies include ,among other things, playing guitar (although I wish I knew more instruments), hiking, travelling, coding, and relaxing in saunas after gym'ing.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do ET's exist? I find that given the ultimate vastness, and age of the universe, that there is no reason that they cannot. However, I believe that it is likely that humans (and Earth) exist simply in the wrong spot in the flow time, and possibily the wrong spot in space. I doubt very much that we will realize ET's in my lifetime, or the next 100 lifetimes. The human lifetime is so insignificant to that of anything else happening out there. I am not sure how this discovery will be made, only that it will be in a long time. I believe that alien contact would cause complete devastation of the economics of the world. Why? Competition with ET's would make humans work hard to achieve great things, and without pay (Star Trek may have influenced my mind I think).

2. No, that would be a tremendous waste of energy.

3. Seti@home is an addiction for me. It is great work for the CPU, and keeps the house warm when you are not compiling kernels.
