Extraterrestrial life, in my opinion, could exist. I think that humanity, in the action of saving itself, could possibly find extraterrestrial life in other solar systems. Sadly, man would probably kill it, seeing as how we are the most important life forms, and our virus must multiply, despite the destruction we cause.
I'm not sure if sending a beacon would help any, but it is something to do. We all need entertainment.
