Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think humans will encounter other humans in a probably different stage of evolution, but it's the same evolution. It's less probable, IMHO, that we encounter much more advanced lifeforms, because they would probably have already discovered us.

When sending a beacon, one should make sure they have written the numbers Pi (3.14159265358...) and E (2.7618281828...) in any form in order to assure the "intellectuality" of lifeforms searched for.

SETI@home is virtually in vain. But it's fun to have a prog running in my tray, not even being sure whether it processes any data at all. :)
