Profile: Elie Wasser

Personal background
Greetings! I'm a 29 year old aerospace and astronomy teacher at Newark Memorial High School in Newark, CA. I have been a long time advocate of SETI, and try to find as many opportunities in the classroom as I can to turn students onto the search for ET and seti@home in particular.

In May of 2001 I received my B.S. in Physics general studies from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. I didn't plan those years too well as it didn't make sense to study observational astronomy in a city that has constant rain and clouds (no radio observatory at UPS either)

In my spare time, I play a steel string guitar and love sharing bluegrass moments with new people. I have an older 8 inch Dob. telescope, and am constantly frustrated with the amount of light pollution in the Bay Area. But when I get the chance, I love going camping and sharing dark skies with some friends.

Drop me a line anytime... ewasser@nusd.k12.ca.us
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti@home provides the average global citizen the means to involve themselves in one of humanity's greatest quests. Discovering extraterrestrial life could unite the planet in a way that we have not seen before, and the act of investigation already has brought thousands of people together in this online community.

As to when we will discover those little green men, who knows? So the best answer would be to say, in our lifetime. Positive attitudes are powerful things. They drive inspiration, and it's that very mesh of emotion and intellect that precipitates revolutions in thought.
