Profile: The Jedi Alliance - Arestavo

Personal background
I am John Wittenberg, born and raised in Michigan, USA. I am fairly new to this world (20) and have earned a trade skill from the United States Air Force. I am a Ground Radio Journeyman, and as such, I fix various radios used in ground to ground and ground to air communications. I am currently stationed in a desolate patch of Earth called Idaho (10 miles from the nearest town).

I do not know if I am to make a career out of the military as of yet, but I soon hope to gain more experience of the world abroad. Afghanistan was an eye opener, but there is much more out there than can be easily found.

Computers are my fist long term hobby. I must admit that it is a love/hate relationship. I tend to love computers and they tend to hate me right back just as much. (just a hour or so ago my server was rebooted to phycadelic colors for my viewing pleasure!) So I guess that giving them 100% loads for extended periods of time is a taste of sweet revenge whilst contributing to furthering man's knowledge of his realm.

I also enjoy working on older cars. This being my secondary hobby, it receives less of my money, but it is still fun! My babies include a '88 Monte Carlo SS and a '72 Buick Skylark.

Knowledge is power. Communication furthers knowledge. Predjudice is the lack of knowledge without knowing it.

John
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There are a few reasons why I run SETI@home. Being part of something larger is always fun (as almost all of us feel so). Searching for ET has been a dream of mine since I first watched ET as a child. Also, seeing how fast I can churn out those work units is fun too :)

I think that distibuted computing is an awesome idea, yet one supercomputer (specifically the one being built for the CIA (as of 21Nov2004) has the same amount of computing power as all of the users combined with HALF of its processor banks being utilized. Now that is impressive!

My only suggestion is keep on keepin' on!
