Personal background
I am a graduate student in computer science at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. I got my undergrad in computer science at South Dakota State University in 2002.

I run SETI@home on my primary system, chaos, my beloved Linux box. I've been switching between Red Had and Mandrake for years, and I've decided that I hate them both. I start the SETI@home client with a cron job that runs every two hours.

I know it sounds like I'm an incurable computer nerd. Well, I am, but I have other hobbies too. I'm a "tattooed freak" with piercings and I watch a lot of movies. Anybody remember Clue? What a great film! I just started trying to learn French by listening to some learn French CDs in my sleep. I'm not sure how that's going to work out yet.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I like to think we're not alone, but I'm not sure we should meet alien races. Considering how we treat each other, I don't think we're ready to meet others.

I run SETI@home because I'd still like to know, whether we meet them or not. I also run SETI@home because I have to leave my computer on all the time (my power supply is too weak to boot the system without coaxing); it may as well do something useful.

I appreciate the project as an experiment in multiprocessing. I find Beowulfing interesting, and SETI@home as well. A little friendly Seti-unit competition between friends never hurt anyone!
