Personal background
I'm from Des Moines...I'm 23...I'm a social worker...my hobbies are too numerous to name, and "anything about myself."

I hate 'personal backgrounds'...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I don't know if extraterrestrial's exist...sometimes I think that question is about unanswerable as whether god exists. But, hey, if either actually exist, that would be cool. I don't think humans will ever discover aliens...I think, if they're actually around, THEY'LL discover US. A benefit to being found would be an exchange of knowledge. A danger would be that humans are wired to pretty much hate anything that's different from themselves, so we'll all discriminate and perhaps bomb the hell out of the new aliens...in the name of freedom, of course.

2. I thought we already had a beacon...well, if we don't, we should send one. Certainly we wouldn't send any spoken or written language. I highly doubt any aliens speak English or Swahili. Music would be a good thing to send because, like math, I have a feeling it's universal. We could send pictures, too, I suppose...though that's based on the assumption that aliens can see...

3. I have no views one way or the other about seti@home except that I run it because I can. It'd be cool if this project offered up actual scientific information that benefited society...that's a good reason for it.
