IMHO:
There is extraterrestrial life. Finding it is a wholly different matter...
We should send some high-power transmitters out there somewhere, nuclear/solar powered. It doesn't matter what we transmit, the point is - that we transmit something.
Why I run a SETI@Home client? Just out of curiosity, although I don't actually expect us to find anything from out there with the modern technology we have .. however "advanced" it may be by our own standards. But however, we might get lucky and find some ages old stuff lingering there - obsolete, probably from a million years dead civilization, but a proof anyways .. that there is, or has been, others out there.
