Personal background
Hello World!!

I'm a Systems Admin and full-time IT/BIS student. All of my time is consumed by anything and everything relating to IT. I first came across SETI 1/15/03, when a user in one of my satellite branches was complaining about decreased performance in virtually every application. When I investigated the scene, I noticed SETI running in the system tray...in several system trays to be exact.

My initial reaction was to un-install every "known" instance and go about the day. That weekend, I did my share of SETI investigating. I couldn't believe that it was REAL! I was initially introduced to the idea through the movie "Contact". When I discovered that it was a real project working towards the discovery of a real extraterrestrial goal, I just had to commit.

There are two facets to this project that captivate my interests. The first is the distributed computing aspect. Wow! Over 4 million users working toward the same goal. Until now, I have only read about "distributed computing" in the textbooks. To see it utilized in such an unprecedented level is amazing.

Within the computing aspect is another component of interst, and that is Processing Power! As a hardware junky, I just have to know how long it will take EVERY machine to process an average WU. I've got six personal machines that I've converted to "Seti Slaves". Each of different processing power...Each yielding different results. None of which however, measure up to some of the 8, 5, 4, and 2 hour WU.

Here are the average WU processing times per machine.
My Results
P4 1.7 512 pc800 RDRAM: 34 hrs
XP2400 512 ddr 333: 12 hours
XP2100 512 ddr 333: 14 hours
XP1700 256 ddr 266: 42 hours
XP1600 384 PC133: 18 hours
Athlon 1g. 256 PC133: 44hours
My friend's P4 2.0/533 512 rdram: 18 hours

The previous avg. WU time information was relevant in the beginning -when I was slave to the SETI@home screen saver version. Check out: wwSetiTeam.com for more info.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My views on SETI...?

As stated previoulsy, I think it's awesome. Yes, of course I believe there's life out there. I can't fathom how anyone would believe otherwise. Establishing communication with another intelligence, however, is something of a different story.

I believe "Extraterrestrials" are there. I believe some of us have already had physical contact w/ them. I don't believe however, that in terms of mass communication w/ the planet as a whole, we've been "allowed" to meet.

On a theological level, we have to keep in mind the "Great Controversy" that is still going on within the universe. You know, the one between good and evil, heaven and hell, God/Christ and Satan...

There is a school of thought that believes that the earth is/was sin's dumping ground. Remember that after the great rebellion in heaven, a third of the hosts were cast to earth. This meaning that the earth had become the new host for sin. Before the official rebellion, the Bible mentions that Satan had visited other worlds to spread his anti-God philosophies. None of which, accepted his temptations. The only ones who accepted were the inhabitants of earth --man.

The short of this theory...SIN ISOLATES. As I understand scientist's view of our galaxy, it seems to exist solely to sustain one planet --Earth. As is, in every celestial orbit, everthing works together to secure a hospitable environment on earth.

We are alone within our little piece of the universe...as disease is quarantined, so is sin. We have been quarantined from polluting the rest of God's purity. The other intelligences, according to this theory, have angellic statuses -thereby they do not interfer with the purposes of the creator, just observe.

The rest of my comment was TRUNCATED. In between academic and occupational pursuits, I will be building a little forum to host thougts and conversations on all matters pertaining to SETI. http://wwSetiTeam.com
