Personal background
I'm a self-employed systems consultant and web designer in Cave Creek, Arizona. I'm from London, England, originally but have lived in the US since 1993. I love space, space exploration, science fiction and the sort of venture that SETI has undertaken.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The movie CONTACT helped inspire me to join this effort. At the moment, I think the SETI project is the only real effort that is underway to find evidence of life elsewhere. I don't think there's really any other way of doing a search like this. Telescopes, no matter how powerful, can not show signs of life on other planets.

I'd love to think that there's someone or something else out there. I can't believe that we're the only place in the universe that harbors (intelligent?) life.

I think we should be sending out our own signals. Who knows? Perhaps there's another SETI out there somewhere. I'm excited about the project. I know my little PC is doing a tiny fraction of the work, but it's making a contribution to the overall effort.

If there is intelligent life out there, I wonder if they'll take one look at us and say "no way, look what they've done to each other and their world. Let's stay away".

I wouldn't blame them.
