Personal background
I'm just an average guy. I live in Seattle, WA, USA and belong to the Audi Owner's Car Club. I usually only travel to places I can drive for my Holidays. I am into computers; cars, music and I love to cook.
My system is a 3Ghz P4, 1024 MB of ram, Raid HD config, nVidia 6800GT video card running Windows XP Pro and cable internet access. I use it mostly for internet games, surfing the net and I let Seti@home run anytime my computer is on.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think ET could be out there. As for how we'll discover them and the dangers, that gets very complicated and I don't think there's enough space here to discuss both sides of the issues (and I'm much too tired at this time to do so).
I think we should transmit a message, but I don't think we're ready for the reply.
There are many distributed computing projects out there, but I think SETI@home is one of the best. It's also the first one I ever heard of, from a member's personal web site that is no longer on the net.
I would like to have a sample sound file to listen to. I would like to know what the sounds are we are processing and what a real "ET" sound is expected to sound like. Will it be like in the movies ID4 or Contact, or will it be something we can't identify until we reach a more advanced level of technology?
