Personal background
I am a 32 year old male currently residing in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. I am using a 1.333 ghz AMD Athlon with 1 GB ram, 20 GB hard disk, DVD, CDRW and GeForce 3. Hobbies include building and repairing computers, and fishing. I worked as a truck driver up until Febuary 2, 2001, when tumors in my legs became too painfull to continue working anymore. After 2 surgeries to remove the tumors, I am recovering and doing well. I expect to return to work in the next few months.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does life exist elsewhere in the universe, yes, I do believe that life can exist on other planets. Whether this life could evolve to an intelligent space faring civilization, I just dont know. The abundance of life on our planet surely cannot be a singular occurance in the universe. Perhaps life was seeded on this planet by a comet, or even intelligent aliens, or maybee we are unique. I certainly hope not. I would love to see any lifeform not of our Biosphere.
Should human's transmit a becon for others, I think not. Instead we should listen and watch the heavens for a sign. If advanced civilizations exist, are they peacefull? Would they welcome us as friends, or simply destroy us to take our planet for their own use. Surely we wouldnt want to be slaves or food to some horrible nightmare creatures. If they are peaceful creatures, then we could learn much from their example. I dont believe that we would be visited at our current level of developement. I fear that we would attack and destroy them in our ignorance and fear. Perhaps one day when we are a peaceful and cooperative race, then maybe they will come.
