Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Probably exists. It will take us centuries because the search paradigm is anthropocentric. SETI may discover somethings, but probably not ET life.

If we do discover an ET life, there will be some localized social instability while religions and religious states come to grips. Conservative elements will want to nuke'em. Liberal elements will want to breed with them. The rest of us will be curious. It should be quite entertaining.

Transmit a beacon? Probably not a useful endeavor. What is the highest power signal we could transmit and how far would it travel before its data was lost in the noise floor?
