Personal background
I live in the middle of Germany. In a town called "Bochum". Maybe you know the german singer Herbert Grönemeyer. He was born here.
I am currently a student of human medicine and if nothing goes wrong I will be a real doctor in about a year.
I am of course a SciFi-Fan, especially Star Trek.
But please don't believe I am one of those idiots with Skin problems who hope to find Mr. Spock here.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

Yes. If live was able to develop on this planet, it seems highly unlikely that this is the only place where this can happen. But no, we won't live long enough to make conatct, because they are too far away.
2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Lets leave a message which says something like: we've been here and destroyed ourselves. Whoever reads this, try to make it better.
3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
Cool thing. Probably the most useful screensaver on earth. Makes me proud being a part of it. Although I don't really believe that IF E.T. exists, we will find them this way. I guess someone more professional will detect the signal far before a user`s computer says something about "Triplets", "Pulses" or "Doppler something".
