I do believe extraterrestrial life exists. How can it not? There is just so much space out there, so many planets - you can't discount the possibility.
Astronomy is about the only science that accepts and needs the opinions and input of ameteurs - thus we have all work together on this type of project.
I run SETI@home because I wonder about all those stars that I see in my telescope every night and am an avid "sci-fier". Plus, I just got a great satellite connection to the internet.
