Personal background
Hi everyone !

i LOVE Technology and even more-so how to make my own tech that aids me and others in daily life to make one's struggles easier, less painful and for assisted mobility.

i lost the ability to walk 9 years ago so am working on a set of aparatus to help me walk again without the use of crutches, having such a contraption being motorised would be a massive achievement but with even today's best battery technology the 'assistive legs' wouldnt last very long, possibly only a few short hours depending on the size and weight of the battery packs and quantity of them too, so for now, im making something that'll be mechanical for now but will be placing key points in the structure for adding motors should one day we have a better power source that runs off of electricity and not fossile fuels.

Size is the biggest problem if i go with a motor-assisted prosthesis, as im quite heavy, just under 100KG, to be specific, 88KG on the dot for the last 10 years, so being a heavy-chap and motors being able to assist me in walking which would need to take my full weight will need some really powerful motors/actuators and this really puts a massive bulk on the size of the legs, envisioning 6 motors, 3 per leg.

Motors such as windscreen wiper motors come to mind as they are pretty powerful and actuators that help move solar arrays for sun tracking are also very powerful but slower than the windscreen wiper motors but would be more compact.

Still, motorisation of the unit is a last thought, will be using very heavy-duty springs to help take the weight off my feet, which is the problem, the soles of my feet have severely damaged nerves that cant take my weight anymore, so first thing would be to create a system that can take the full brunt of my weight but will allow me to walk in a somewhat fashion to as normal as possible.

im 40 years old at time of writing this, so have many years ahead of me (hopefully lol) and ive been teaching myself 3D Modelling with software such as Sketchup and only just started learning Fusion 360 too, somthing from an old-school software which i know pretty much inside and out to a very new software thats extremely powerful and very user-friendly and mechanically-sound for engineering parts for making whatever one needs via 3D Printing.

Even though im an advocate for all things technology-infused/created/upgraded, i do also have very real world worry about Artificial Intelligence and the massive risks associated with not implementing fail-safe's from the AI turning on us humans and either enslaving us or wiping us out of existance, this is where i think Elon Musk's fear of AI is very real & although i would want an Artificial Intelligence to help us all using our best morals and ethical standards, we must be very careful in making sure the negative aspects of such do not come to pass such as many movies have already depicted.

So the next 50 years will be very interesting to see what comes next and how we evolve with it, i beleive in keeping much of my own work as open-source so its the power of the world's greatest minds that go to help improve a design instead of banging one's head against a wall with not being able to solve a certain hurdle that is in the way of a design progressing further.

i Love computers, upgrading Laptops/Desktops/Workstations and for the last few years ive been able to make my own basic circuit boards to some intermediate level PCB's professionally manufactured by legititmate sources as well as home-brew PCB's and i love learning about new components as well as the olden-day components we once used to get people to the moon and back, our own cell phones these days are more powerful than all the computing power of the Apollo 11 Rocket so nowadays having self-returning and landing space rockets is a massive acheivement and will open up the Solar system for us one day, not only Mars !

At the moment none of my prosthesis designs are available but they will be once i move out to a more stable home and will be up on github for all to download, alter and re-design with a non-commercial licence, share-alike.

Thanks again for reading and thanks for letting me in to this awesome endeavour, reading avidly to the forums and team messages and looking forward to meeting an E.T once they cross into our solar system, just hope they come in peace !
