Profile: Cash Pimpin'

Personal background
I am originally from India, where I finished my high school. I came to US for undergraduate and graduate studies in the field of engineering. I am a student at the Santa Clara University, in California. This is a small college, which was the reason I choose this college. I hope to finish my studies soon so that I can go back to India. This would be considered strange for many reasons, but I believe that your responsibility to parents comes first, as they have nourished you from the very beginning.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that there other living beings like us, or maybe not. But every one would say 'there is something out there'. I was fascinated from the very beginning about things beyond our own earth. Watching films like E.T, Close Encounters with the Third Kind, Alien and Contact, it pulled me further into this idea of life being out there. Quoting Jodi Foster reply from the movie Contact to the little Girls ' there is a lot of waste of space....', that really hit me and made me think deeper as to what is the use of such huge space.
A beacon from our planet could be a good idea, but we have to consider that our language is not universal and if we send any information in voice, it might be misinterpreted and could create a threat for our planet or any other plant, we should keep on searching for the planets using the current technology, even though that it might be slow.
The reason why I run SETI@Home is that I would like to help in search for ET life forms. It is also that it was the first major use of multi-processing on such a wide scale using such a code. I was really amazed when the government declined to give money to SETI for new computers and they come up with the idea of SETI@Home, this showed that science would face challenges, but as long as there are people who are interested in knowing the unknown, they would always find another way.
