Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Anyone that thinks we are alone is just rediculous. First contact will probably be by accident or radio signals.
It makes sense to transmit a beacon so distant life can locate us instead of monitoring TV commercial broadcasts from the early days of TV, like Mr. Whipple("80s) squeezing toilet tissue or some jock with crotch rot or a lady with feminine hygiene odor.
If we do make contact, I do fear many people will be scared and on the defensive, possibly hostile as they are with domestic aliens, thanks to Hollywood and Orson Wells.
I think the use of home PC's are a great way to use dormant CPU's to search the vast spectrum of frequencies. Who knows how contact will first be made, I think this is a good start......Keep up the good work everyone!
