Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My thoughts on Seti's mission:
It's a mathematical certainty that there is life elsewhere....
"Life" can be defined as simple or complex multi-cellular organisms.
"Intelligent Life" could be in the form of Advanced A.I. or actual living intelligent beings.
The Seti project is searching for "evidence" of technologically advanced intelligent life.
The "evidence" can be defined as "radio" broadcast traffic picked up by the Seti radio-telescopes.
Realistically.. The goal is to intercept a distant transmission.
having 2-way conversation is just not a realistic or practical goal due to the vastness of the space-time interval.
TANSTAAFL: I would be very wary of any visitors.
I believe that nature dictates that the "visitors" who actually show up here to will be opportunistic, invasive and generally malevolent beings.
They would look down upon us the same way we look down upon an ant hill.
We would be easy pickings for such a technologically advanced visitor....
However... Seti's goal is to prove the existence of intelligent life outside of our solar system.
That would be awesome!
Just don't invite them to dinner... ;)
