Personal background
I am a 17-year-old student from austria (not australia). I do not believe in any religion but in science. why? because science provides you with logical proofs, whereas religion can't give you a good proof for its' assertions, only assumptions.
Mankind should not kill itself. We should look for ways to make the world a better place and if the world once will become a dangerous place for us to stay, we should start thinking about how to escape from here.

one last important thing: i'm strictly against any form of violence. we have the ability to communicate and we should use it (violence is no form of communication).

life is a hard teacher - it always gives the test first and the lesson afterwards.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely think that extraterrestrial life exists. there are many billions of galaxies in the universe, billions of stars in our galaxy, millions of those have planets, and the possibility that at least one of them has intelligent life on it is very high. The only problem is the vast distance between our planets. even if we would be able to send a message to them, if they are 1000 lightyears away, a response would travel 1000 years till it reaches us. i don't think we would be able to meet phyiscally.
By the way, i think those intelligent lifeforms would be of peaceful nature. like mankind, they will start scientific researches and they will try to contact us, however it's not quite probable that this will be the case.

We should at least try to gain attention in this big universe by sending a small hint where and what we are (just like pioneer2).

I run the S@H client because i believe in science and extraterrestrial life. and i think it is well worth my idle cpu time :)

we are so small. so small. so small. i love that idea.
