Personal background
I'm a 51 y/o male from Middletown, Virginia. Middletown is located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I work as a paramedic in a hospital emergency room. My 15 seconds of fame came the morning of June 1993 at 5:30 am when John Bobbit walked in the ambulance entrance, in grey sweat pants, brown loafers, no shirt, blood on his chest, holding a white towel in his waist band. I ask him what was wrong, his reply, "I don't know if she ripped it off or cut it off?", he said. I looked at him puzzled and said, "what?". "I don't know if she ripped it off or cut it off?" he repeated. "Ripped what?", I asked. "This!", he exclaimed as he pulled down the front of his sweat pants to revile no penis. The area looked like a red button with nothing else, but squirted blood at me. "Oh, shit!", I said, "come with me to this room". I led him to a room and started an IV and got him preped for surgery. The rest of the story I'll tell over drinks that you guys pay for. I've been a volunteer firefighter/ medic for 33 years. Yes, I can now say I've seen it all. Hobbies: reading: types of books: physics, astrobiology, Particle science, quantum anything, anything about space and time travel, anything about black holes.........etc., outdoor activities: fishing, hiking, biking(have a recumbent), hunting with a camera, astronomy, cloud watching, meterology......etc., model railroding(O27, O, G gauges), sheep dog herding( I have two dogs, border collies(Max and Holly), who I use in herding trials), learning the bagpipes, can play a mean blues harmonica.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If ET does exist, I feel "they" are among us now. They will make themselves known to us when they feel it's time. Benefits and dangers will have to be decided by humans when offers are made. I think the beacon should be kept simple, in binary numbers. Why complicate a communication with something that maybe just noise to another race? We should send the following: who we are, where we are located, why we want to communicate, how we would like to meet(not on earth but on the moon, keep the meeting area neutral), what we expect to give and look to gain from the meeting. Remember, we are technologically advanced to ourselves only, we maybe stone aged to others who are able to travel to our planet. I run SETI because it is my way of helping science and it is exciting to think I might find ET. Question: Is there anyway for a person like me to listen to the sounds from space in real time? In the movie "Contact" Jodie Foster was able to listen to the sounds to find what she was looking for. I'm the same way. I want to hear the noise, not look at patterns. I know it was just hollywood making up a bunch of crap, but I'm the type of person who needs to hear as well as see what is going on. Let me know. I know I won't be able to move the large array around anytime I want to, but I would like to hear sound. Some ideas I thought of in a dream two nights ago: the egyptians did not build the great pyrimids, they were there already; the big bang occured when a black hole gathered in all the material it could hold and exploded out the otherside; the larger the particle accelerators we build the moer we will mess with earths magnetic field; a stable worm hole will be found close to our solar system soon.
