Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is impossible that we are alone in this vast Cosmos. I believe we are in a kind of galactic quarantine because we have exhibited nothing but hostility and violence to any who may have noticed us, and it's impossible (particularly since the beginning of the Nuclear Age) that we have escaped the notice of the galactic community. We are savages with nothing but potential for doing harm (so far). We may evolve past this stage of development and be allowed to join civilization beyond our tiny home, but we have a long way to go. Meanwhile, we search the skies for sign of hope that intelligence and technology does not lead inevitably to brutality and self-destruction.
