Personal background
I'm 20 years old and reside in Toronto Ontario, Canada. I'm going to college for Computer Repair and Maintenace and to become a Network Professional. I like to build models of starships from Star Trek, I like photography, rock climbing, archery, baseball, and chillin with friends, partying, and meeting new people. I love my computer and computer games. I'm engaged to my girlfriend Lisa, who is also going to college. I plan to make a career for myself in computers, though the future may hold many things for me. I also plan to start my own computer repair and consultation shop. I love life, and I love people. I guess I'm an easy going guy and I get along with many people. I believe in the golden rule, treat me with respect and I'll do the same.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that there is life out there, and intelligent life at that. I refuse to believe that out of the billions upon billions of stars in a galaxy multiplied with the billions upon billions upon billions of galaxies in the known universe that there isn't life or intelligent life outside earth. An aweful waste of space if you ask me. Besides, I think it is arrogent of us humans to think that we are the only intelligent life in the known universe or even that the universe revolves around us. I'd like to think that there are great things in the future for our species. Perhaps we'll go beyond all this petty fighting like in the middle east, or in south asia, and learn to love one another. Peace to all. I do believe that humans should transmit a message but I don't think it should be any language other than math. I agree that math is the universal language and that any intelligent life would be able to decode a message made of math because they would notice patterns and know universal concepts like integers, prime numbers, etc. You cannot send a message in any language because all languages are cultural not universal. So you'd either have to belong to that culture or be taught the language. Now since aliens aren't among us (to our knowledge) you put two and two together. Anyways, what makes us think that they are interested in meeting us? They might have an inherently hostile nature that is contrary to our own, (Though some would disagree with me that we do not have an inherently hostile nature). I love the idea of SETI. I think it's a noble idea and a noble cause. It's unlikely that SETI will find signals of life in my lifetime, but forever an optimist I will be. :D
