Profile: Jurek Zarzycki

Personal background
I was born and grew up in Poland and now live in California (USA). I am an old, fat and ugly guy but I have my fun. Now that I am over 50, I started to fulfill most of my life's dreams, one by one. I am starting to run out of things to check off my list!

Photography - love shooting pictures of people! Even thinking of turning this into some retirement income (when I retire!).

Astronomy - I spend more time reading about it than at the eyepiece of one of my telescopes. Mainly interested in the physics of the Sun and other stars.

Music - Mainly classical, but also lots of weird stuff that I pick up in music stores or that my teenagers introduce me to (Evanescence and Sheep On Drugs). I also thought myself to play a clarinet - another dream fulfilled!

Travel - lucky to have a job that took me all over the world. But it became too much and now I just travel on pleasure (Winjamer cruise - another dream checked off!).

Nature - I never part with my pocket microscope and magnifying glass. I love hiking as well and do it weekly in the nearby hills.

History - Medieval and my family history.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that there is a high likelihood of many other civilizations out there. The universe is big. But I think that the chance of there being another civilization at about the same level of development as ours and within reasonable communication distance, is nearly zero. But, it is theoretically possible, so we must do SETI. We owe it to ourselves and future generations.
And I like the techie aspects of SETI@home! :-)
