Personal background
Hello. My name is John. I live in Michigan's Tranquil Upper Peninsula, in a small town named "Crystal Falls" www.crystalfalls.org
I am an Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator. I have enjoyed listening for weak signal ( mostly terrestrial ), for many many years.
Among my other hobbies are: naked eye celestial observation, Amateur Telescopy,
Satellite tracking/communications, VLF through SHF transmission/monitoring.
I am a "dark Sky" proponant. I enjoy outdoor activities.
I am very pleased to now be able to listen further than our small neighborhood Solar system for signs of modulated energy.
Thanks Setiathome.
Respectfully,
John L. Ponchaud Jr

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe life is abundant throughout the universe. It would be strict arrogance to believe that "we" are all there is. The arrogant view of "aloneness" simply isn't supported by random odds, nor is it supported by the chaos factor, or mathematical probability. I believe we may be "missing" signals that we are not yet capable of percieving. Many more listening posts are needed, as well as new technologies and wider/higher frequency receivers. The possibility of "pulse modulated visible spectrum" or "faster than light" super accelerated EMW/EMF is also a very real possibility. We may be listening for for a 247 Giga-bps modulation with a 56Kbps modem ... The possibilities are endless.
I do not think contact would occur in a "physical" way. My belief is that it would be a very long decryption process, and then a slow exchange of information. The information exchange would be a wonderful thing.
***My thoughts on beaconing***
A beacon from Earth, or near space would be helpful, but let's face it folks... We "are" a beacon...
We are "RADIO-ACTIVE" here on Earth. A very loud sustained analog and digital signal source in the electromagnetic spectrum, surely we are visible now. Beacons would be a great vehicle for allowing a focused attempt at targeted interstellar DX'ing though. I'm all for it. Can I bring my
microphone?
