Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Personal Philosophy Regarding SETI: Unlike some religious folks, I don’t feel that my faith is threatened by science. I have found true science to be very supportive of my faith. For example, secular scientists spent decades believing that the Universe was without a beginning and saw no possibility of an ending. Meanwhile people with faith in the Biblical account saw a sudden beginning (Creation) of the Universe described in scriptures, and ascribed to that view instead. Science has revealed that the Universe is expanding, and this fact has helped to convince practically all secular scientists that the Universe had a sudden beginning. This is but one example of many. I am not implying that *people* of faith never feel threatened by *people* of science. Rather, that *truth* is never threatened by *science.* Even if intelligent, extraterrestrial life is never discovered, what tenant of Christian faith is wounded by listening/looking for such life? On the other hand, if intelligent, extraterrestrial life *is* discovered, what tenant of Christian faith is wounded by the knowledge of its existence? Some people of faith might be shaken by such knowledge, but not I.
