Thanks Rob,
I've installed the latest Palit GTX760 drivers, (which comes from Nvidia) and now I'm getting what's described in this thread;

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1023312/geforce-700-600-series/gtx-760-error-from-384-76-or-over/

and still no 'usable GPUs found'

I'm at a total loss now, I'll download 368.81 and try as last resort. I just don't know what is stopping CUDA processing from working. sigh..
thanks for your help

Thanks for your replies, sorry I've been away for work.
I should clarify that the User name I manually removed the name 1st time and just forgot 2nd time.
I did a completely 'Clean Installation' using the latest drivers. It causes the screen to violently flash on /off until after login screen, then after 20/30 minutes computer freezes, only reset brings it back.
I have now done a 'Clean install' using my oldest graphic drivers, 331.65, as I don't know where the drivers are failing.. e.g I don't want to download every single driver pack @ 300mb+.
I am somewhat dubious of these packs anyway as they seem to be full of bloatware (3D drivers etc) that I don't use.
Rob mentioned that you use version 368.81, I'll try that but I'll ask some stupid questions now;
Will updating to Windows 10 fix this?
Do I need to install a CUDA or OPENGL developers pack to make this work?
Should I buy a 2nd hand graphics card off ebay since this stupid $300 GTX760 seems to be giving me nothing but grief?
Should I move to another planet where I can live amongst the stars and not worry about GPU computing? :)
Thanks for all your help so far.

Hi again, so I've
Uninstalled all drivers using the DDU tool.
completely uninstalled any NVidia stuff. (Ethernet/audio)
completely uninstalled and stopped antivirus software (AVAST) and removed JAVA just in case.
done a brand new install of my older NVidia drivers and new install of BOINC and ....
still 'no usable GPUs found' :(

Thanks Ageless and Rob Smith, I've done a clean install using the NVidia package from their website listed as, 385.41-desktop-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.

I'm having trouble with this GPU problem as well. Have seen numerous posts about GPUS, CUDA, OpenGl.
I've not run BOINC for awhile but have a spare PC available now. Its quite modern with the latest NVidia drivers.
I notice the 'service' option is now disabled so I no its not that.
I'm completely lost as to why when I run GPU-Z, the CUDA, OpenGL is unticked...
Please any help would be great.

you can close this now... I suspect that either the nvidia or mainboard drivers are at fault.. I can't prove this as I've had no boot problems, but I'll wait awhile to see what happens with nvidia's driver support... thanks for your help.

It can only be the newest nvidia driver then. The drivers would have had to be rigously tested on CUDA supported software before releasing it. Apart from online preferences, is there anyway to stop the BOINC manager from using the GPU based seti?

just to clarify, other processes, well I meant no other processes using much CPU usage.
the whole computer was built in october 2008. all HDDs have been tested with Western digitals diagnostic program.
In any case, I'm very sceptal about running the new CUDA version because I simply cannot afford to lose the MBR again.
Sorry if you think its my setup or hardware but nothing else has happened since removing BOINC.

Okay to back up my claim here's the following that has happened since the last post.

Bought a brand new hard drive, installed a fresh new copy of windows.
Installed BOINC,(non-cuda) as the nvidia drivers were 177.33.
Ran boinc for 7 hours, to allows a few records thru. no faults, perfect running.
THEN
Installed latest driver 180.48, changed SETI preferences to us GPU, downloaded CUDA processes and records. about 17 minutes later. Screen went all fuzzy.
Rebooted and you guessed it, my new HDD and new VISTA install ... gone ...
MBR corrupt. had to run vista recovery AGAIN ... to recover and get going..
No other processes were running, nothing in background... was watching using task manager to see CPU usage, it was low BOINC was at top sorted on usage. GPU fan was racing at the exact time of failure. the graphics card has not failed on any graphic intensive game I've played including Dead Space, GRID, Bioshock and Call of Duty 4....
So you can see everything points to BOINC somehow writing data to the MBR. I would suggest that someone else try this, my configuration is;

vista home premium , Build 6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612
nvidia M750SLI-DS4 mainboard, AMD QUAD 9950 AM2+ CPU, 4GB RAM PC2-6400
nvidia geforce 9800GTX+ 512Mb, 768Mhz.
no overclocking...

good luck

to further my experience with this version, I have found a FATAL flaw with it. When I installed in on Sunday, it began causing my video card to do strange things, one of the things is to cause the MBR of the HDD to corrupt . there is no other program that has caused this as its happened twice now. he second time is has corrupted my HDD with all my holiday photos. As a result I will no longer use BOINC until such flaws are fixed. This is a warning to anyone using a nvidia 9800gtx+ with 180.48 drivers. DONT USE THIS VERSION, DONT USE THE CUDA VERSION....

I have proved the problem lies with BONIC.
sorry but my photos are more valuable than crunching numbers.
I have been a satisfied user of BONIC for 8 years, but the honeymoon is over.

okay that explains that, I did not see a link on the main page or the download page about the incompatibilty. How can I undo this and make BOINC work on the CPUs again and not the GPU?

Hello
Have just installed latest nvidia drivers (180.48), then installed 6.4.5. It was processing 4 tasks on my QUAD AMD, until it finished the remaining non-cuda tasks, about 2 hours ago. the boinc manager has now downloaded about 100 tasks for the GPU to do, but none for the CPU to do. What have I done wrong?? Please help..
15) Questions and Answers : Windows : Uploading results external to BOINC (Message 730962)
Posted 27 Mar 2008 by Profile Jeff Dicton
Post:
You need more than just the result files, you need the entire BOINC directory. Each result file is linked to a file, and without an entry in that file, there is no way to tell BOINC that you have added new results to be uploaded. Re-creating those entires in that file will also do no good because each file is linked to a host ID, so it expects the same system that downloaded the file to also return the file.

Bottom line is that without the entire \\BOINC tree, you may as well just discard the files and let them get reissued to new clients.

Okay thanks for the info. I'm buggered now cause the two PCs are at work where I left yesterday, I didn't think to back up the whole BOINC tree.
thanks for quick reply.
cheers

Help please;
I've had to take just the result files, approx 26-27k each off two computers because they couldn't talk to the network anymore, about 20 results, and I want to upload them. I don't have access to those computers any more or have the original 360k data files. Can anyone help with this ?
thanks
jeff
