Well guys, I don't know why this started happening on this one rig after a full shutdown and reboot, but alas, there is something seriously long causing the errors with cuda tasks. I've run as many diagnostics as I can and even tore the rig apart and put it back together. I've reported all of the tasks and am just going to cycle through what I have left buffered. I'll try another approach to fix whatever has gone wrong after the holidays.

Nice Akio,

I see you went with the ASrock X99e ws

Looks good.

Going to put 2 more 980Tis in there or going to wait for the 1080s?

Going to stick with the original plan with two more 980Tis. Technology always moves faster than the cash flow, hehe. This rig was mad with your guiding hand, Zalster. Couldn't have launched without your help. (1/31/16)...Also: My birthday; the launch was rushed on purpose.

not sure where to put two more radiators

There's room in the front skirt for one more pictured in the bottom of this photo, and the other side of the tower matches with another skirt. Plenty of ventilation opportunities in this Corsair 900D. :) ....Now if I could only get the Consumers Energy bill to cooperate I could run both rigs 24/7, hehe. Oh, the life of a cruncher!

I sent a message to the moderator to please unlock the thread so I can post photos. Ms. Angela: YOU ROCK! and thank you for doing that :)

Here's a few photos for you guys on this build. NOTE: I still need two more GPUs and lighting, but here is Prometheus as she stands currently ;)

Hey Guys,

Just started to make a few purchases on a new rig when I came across this thread. My build is very close to this one with a few changes. Could you please take a look and give me your recommendations.

Thanks,
Kevin

I like it overall, Kev. That's a lot of memory, though. And I'd be a little worried about the airflow restrictions between those graphics cards all sandwiched together on the MB (an observation noted by a poster in regards to my build too, and worth pondering. See posts above).

I built a similar rig using a CaseLabs Mercury Case, its amazing. Tons of room for the hybrid coolers, great support for the gpus, and its made from thick aluminum.

That case is sweet! After checking the pricing for it I was bummed, as it put me over my starting budget. It would be an amazing case to have though, but I had to stay with the Corsair 900D for this project.

I've had the new rig up and running GPU tasks for about five days or so, and so far all seems to be running well. I'll be adding some CPU tasks soon too. So far I'm pretty happy with the two hybrid 980 Ti's; they stay pretty cool under load and are very quiet. I'm already saving up for the last two, but that will take a very long while. I'll be having to tweak the app_config a little more for optimal performance.

The rig went together better and faster than I expected. It makes a huge difference when you're working with a tower that in no way lacks room to move your hands and fingers around in. I'm pretty happy so far with how it's turned out. Come to find out I actually like putting rigs together; it might be worth looking into for pay.

...I would have undoubtedly had Windows 10 installed without my knowledge.

No, that's not possible. Updating to Windows 10 does require some key presses and agreement with EULA's still. What the update will do though is download and start, then go wait for you to wake up and log on, before telling you that the installation process is ready to start. Not sure if at this point there is the option to cancel, though.

But then, if you say No to the EULA, the installation will fail anyway.

I stand corrected. Thanks, Ageless.

Saw on social media this morning exactly what you all already know: Windows 10 is now being slipped into the Windows Update higher recommended download/install list. I find this type of pushing of said OS update bogus on Microsoft's part; had I not caught the info this morning and then read this thread, based on my Windows Update settings I would have undoubtedly had Windows 10 installed without my knowledge. I have since changed my settings.

Thank you guys. You are much appreciated.

So for my i7-960, how would I modify my settings to only run GPU work and just have the CPU assist them?

For your rig, if you will need to keep at least 2 cores frees.

There is also a question if you plan on hyperthreading your cpu and if you will be running any work on the CPU as well, so the value of the project max concurrent will be different.

I have my i7-960 (4 cores) with HT enabled. It takes a while to complete tasks, but that's the way of things. I planned on doing the same thing with my new i7-5930K (6 cores). What are the pros and cons of maxing out the CPU usage (including GPU assists)? Should I not worry so much about utilizing the CPU and concentrate more on the GPUs doing the work?

I'd advise those who haven't seen it to stay away from this thread. The
originator of the tread should decide if spoilers are okay or not. Akio?
For myself, if I haven't seen a show, I stay away from the groups that might
spoil it. I've had to avoid a whole bunch of stuff about SW-TFA.

Is it possible to change a group name? I'd change it to add the word "SPOILERS."

I will let Lynn make that decision, as she started the original thread that is now locked...I just started this one because the series start date finally arrived and I wanted to talk about how excited I was. Regardless, I still consider Lynn the original starter of the X-Files thread.

On a side note: It never occurred to me that season 10 would be shown in the US before other places, so spoilers didn't even cross my mind. I would hope people wouldn't ruin the show for others unless the thread name was changed to "X-Files (SPOILER ALERT!)" or the like, but that's not up to me. Lynn? :)

I appreciate you guys' input! You have certainly given me a lot to think about over the next couple of weeks. Please continue to comment on this while I'm still in planning mode ;)

I suppose you guys are right about the M.2 idea. I am probably looking at getting the Samsung 850 Pro 128GB SATA SSD for my boot drive and using a standard 1TB SATA drive for storage. The latter is cheap and easy to get :)

I'm going to forgo purchasing a CD/DVD drive of any kind and use my external one I have for installing the OS and all that during setup. I really have no need for a permanently installed one.

Other than that, I'll start with the two GPU's to get the build together, and then get the other two down the road when funds are replenished.

Updated part list. Still in the planning stages while I mull over other hardware.
