I have dozens of WUs that say they are completed and successful and im not getting credit! It says "recieved credit 0.00" it doesnt say pending. Whats up with that?!

I went into one of those results and this is what it says, "Result was reported too late to validate." It seems that your computer reported those results after the deadline.

How long has BOINK been available? I just figured it was new... a next generation of SETI. Has BOINK been up for a while?

I think the bata test of BOINC started in December 2002, I think it was opened up to the public in the first quarter of 2003. I am sure someone can correct me if my dates are wrong.

The new software is horrible and the new program stinks. Please do not get rid of the old program. Why can't you just run both and let people choose which to use?

Because the new seti program which is designed to run under BOINC D/C does the scientific work much better than seti classic ever did or could do.

I downloaded Boinc some months back and can't tell if it's working or not. I don't like the idea of uninstalling it if it might be working and I don't know it. Can anyone tell me an easy to tell if the Boinc installation is doing anything? Thanks.

It looks like you did it correctly. You have 99 seti/BOINC credits and most of your seti classic wu's are credited, with the rest to come when classic closes. Are you having some kind of problem?

Thank you Ageless for your comments. I must agree that it is easy to “Cuss” a program, but it is also easy to notice when a program slows your system down which is a good sign of a badly coded or implemented computer program. I am also unsure what Credits are but I am sure that the fact I don’t have any is something to do with me not being able to get BOINC working properly. I have however completed 74 units in SETI classic which I would hope would count for something. What we all must remember also is that the computer time we give to SETI is a gift from each of us and if SETI is not made easy to use I neither have the time nor inclination to give that computer time. I would not read the Wiki as I don’t read instructions as a mater of principle. I hope this helps you clarify what I have said in my last comments.

Warm regards.

Tay

From a look at your stats it seems as if you got everything working correctly. The rest of your classic wu's will be posted when classic is shut down, at that time it will show your total classic wu's.

Well I have installed seti@home classic. Gone through the user_info.sah file to get my password. It is the same one that seti sent me in my email. So it verifies that it is my true password. I can login to set classic using my email address. But when I try to trnasfer over credits from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php it says no such email address. I used the same email address for both accounts, so I know they exist. Especially since I can login to both of them. I will run both versions of the programs for a couple of days hopeing that will help it convert the credits. Probably not. I just hate to loose all my credits in this change over for nothing. Its only about 2300 or so, but heck its still 2300. :) I guess I exsist but yet I dont.

If you used the same email address to join seti/BOINC you used when you first joined seti classic, then that is a bug of some kind and you should go to Questions/Problems forum where you may find an answer. But the fact that it says new member under your user name indicates that the email address you used to join seti/BOINC was not the same as the one you had used to join seti classic. I would double check that email address.

I find this new interface appalling too..... Can't retrieve my credits after 4 year participation - Don't patronise - At least I don't double post!! ;-) My only problem is that BOINC's transfer (Credits) system keeps returning "must enter email" when I have - Why is this such a problem?

Under your name it says new menber. Did you enter the same email address you used when you were at seti classic? It does not look like you did, because if you did it should have shown date you joined seti classic.

If a signal is detected, the chances are very high that it would have been traveling for thousands of years. If we do pin point where it came from and decided to answer, it will take an equal amount of time to get there. So I don't think we have much to worry about unless they happen to be passing through the system in which case we better hope they are friendly.

Good point. Is this also why most people believe any civilization we detect would be more advanced than ours? Simply put, the signal had to be VERY old and given that much time the civilization would have had to advance beyond us in that time?

The idea that the civilization has advanced during the travel time is the optimstic view. The pessimistic view is that any civilization we discover will have extinguished itself in a world war or otherwise gone extinct before we could send a response.

This is not a quiet universe. In fact one could look at it and say it is a very dangerous universe. The chances of a civilization surviving that long is most likely low after all the list of things that can go wrong are almost endless. Asteroids, comets hitting the planet. Some planet wide problem, ie volcanoes, war. Since a civilization will not have existed as long as their star, their local star could have some kind of dangerous cycle that they are not aware of. Lets not mention the black holes, quasers, ect.. that could be hanging around near by just waiting to shoot some kind of cosmic jet in their direction.

Thanks to both Thierry and Fabe for replying.

I did notice the "member since" stat, and that's cool!

But if I were to purchase one of the certificate frames, for instance, would my certificate show the total number of credits from both systems, Classic and BOINC?

Sorry for beating a dead horse, but I'd really LOVE if my BOINC totals showed all my credits TOTAL on the screensaver page I look at most often.

Well that sucks.
My account still only says "1031 as of March 15, 2005. When will THAT be corrected then?

Once Classic is shut down, a final update will be done.

If you go to the Seti@HOME home page there is a link that will take you to a page where you can set up the certificate to show both seti classic and seti/BOINC credits. I would wait until the final classic credits have been updated, when classic is shut down. You should have your correct classic totals at that time.
