Someone at work mentioned today, that I lost weight and would disappear soon. With all the chocolate cake, how is that possible?
ROTFLMAO

The trick is to cut it several hours before you eat it, that way most of the calories have leaked out! :)

Oh, my, seriously laughing out loud! Very, very funny. Will have to pass that one on when the opportunity presents itself!

Defense calls for dismissal of Greece manslaughter case

Rochester, N.Y. —
Claiming his client acted in self-defense when he fired at a Hilton teenager and killed him, the attorney representing Roderick Scott is calling on a judge to dismiss the criminal case.

High-profile Rochester defense attorney John Parrinello said he has filed court papers seeking to have the manslaughter charge dropped. He feels statements made by prosecutor Julie Finocchio of the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office have unfairly influenced potential jurors.

Specifically, he is troubled with claims by authorities that Christopher Cervini, 17, was shot in the back. Parrinello has maintained that Scott shot the teen as the teen charged toward him.

Having read the article, I consider it possible that with one shot in the hand the attacker could have whirled around and then been shot in the back by a second round fired in quick succession by a frightened and inexperienced person. One possibility, albeit not the only one.
At some point in time it will have to be determined whether or not citizens have the right to defend themselves from attack and it will have to be taken into consideration that the average citizen facing attack is not trained as a police officer or soldier would be trained.
And before you think that I am a right-wing nut consider this: I am a screaming liberal who believes in socializied medicine, etc., etc., but I still reserve the right to defend my own self and the selves occupying my home. I would shoot anyone invading my home and reserve the right to defend my property as well in an appropriate manner. I will do whatever it takes to defend my family.
One thing that troubles me is the prosecution of people by those seeking higher political office - we must seperate prosecutions from the electoral process. There should be some other way to select these officials - otherwise prosecutions will continue to be based on political convenience as opposed to the search for true justice.
One should be mindful of all those convicted in a dubious manner and subsequently proven innocent - consider the Innocence Project - and include those convicted and who have then continued to be imprisoned even after others have confessed to those crimes.

Defense of the home against an invader is very clear cut in every jurisdiction I have heard of. If someone breaks into your house while you are there, and they are armed, you have the right to shoot them.

The difference is the kids were on the other side of the street on someone else's property. This is NOT defense of the home.

If, indeed, you are correct and the person shot was not even on the shooter's property then the game changes and self-defence would not appear to be an option, especially if the deceased person was unarmed.

hehe..

Well.. I drink coffee all the time - day and night..
I drink Baileys as often as possible, and eat
chocolate of chocolate cake more often than possible.

..and yes.. I am in the Star team.. hehe -

Dont feel sorry for me.. Those things makes me happy.
..and I dont think I fit into Vextors ideas there.. lol ;-))

LOVE good coffee - limit myself to one in the early morning so I can function during the day, sleep at night and get up VERY early and do the same the next morning. I am a chocolate pig so I seldom have it in my home or I would overdose - and I limit my consumption to ecologically sound chocolate. Very expensive and therefore another inhibitor to my LOVE of chocolate. And Bailey's is great - and rarely purchased and consumed by me - my personal efforts to avoid addiction.
Therefore, understand, my "laughing out loud" response to the "Breakfast of Champions".

For all the cowards sited petitioning in there luxury ,air conditioned homes , i would say :PICK UP THE RIFLE GO STAND AND GAURD THE WALL ,after which you can come back and see if you still have the guts to petition and criticize the men who let us all live a free life, through there sacrifices. The us should also remove those under 30years old such boys are not mature in mind to fight in such snake wars ,we need really soldiers mature and those who can calculate in a cunning manner the young can be kept as backup.

Not all of us "petitioning cowards" live in luxury. And to petition for something that is not popular but right takes courage, not cowardice. The wall that needs the most defense is the one that guards our common humanity. For you to assume that those of us who are willing to stand for what we believe is right - regardless of the cost, even to ourselves - are exhibiting ignorance of reality and naivete demonstates your lack of understanding of who we are.
Let us not engage in a war of words but instead commit ourselves to seeking to understand the viewpoint of the other without rancor. Only through tolerance and honest perception of other's circumstances can peace be achieved - and I mean this to apply to all, not just us but I, we, are willing to be the first. That takes courage, too.
Do not be deceived, the person of peace may prove to be the most formiddable foe when necessity dictates.

Is there anything new on the convoy? Have any news outlets picked up the story?

From what I have read the Afghan army is mostly at fault (allegedly). Is this true ?

Thank you Kasule for the pictures!

National Public Radio featured this story today - this morning in fact. You can check out their website to hear a replay.

Western morals are fine and are much respected around the world, Its actually what everyone would want the world to be.The problem the war you fighting is a different war non conventional war were the enemy is not clearly or easily seen ,they have no uniforms, the blend into what you call civilians but when you turn your back the kill you. Western morals dont apply to such a war ,unless of course
you want more body bags coming home.Thats why us pulled out of a tiny country like somali after the black hawk went down,Ithink you saw like every one else what morals the somalis had.The problem is if you dont adapt you die its that simple, these people hide weapons in the ground some are innocent others are not,the are related you are a foreigner what do you expect definately most are cooperating.

It would seem that you haven't watched the film.
8,000 combatants surrendered and suddenly 3,000 of them are dead in the desert.
This was not during the heat of battle. This was a mass execution.

The film alleges they were loaded into shipping containers.
When they started crying out for air, holes were shot in the sides of the containers causing the deaths and injuries of those against the containers walls.

The film then claims that the wounded, sick and unconcious were placed in the containers with the dead and were taken into the desert and executed.

I don't give a damn about the actions of other armies, we can't control what they do, but the armies of western democracies are under our control and will conduct themselves in a manner in keeping with our values.

This means that mass murder, genocide, summary executions, rape, looting and other forms of warcrimes are not tolerated.

Everyone who claims the high moral ground is the position we in the west now occupy should be contacting their elected representatives and demanding an international inquiry into the allegations made by the filmaker.

I have already done so.

Let's get to the truth of the matter.
Was this alleged crime the actions of a small number of Afghan soldiers or were there American troops present?

We need to know either way.

I agree with you totally. We must learn the truth and the chips will have to fall wherever they fall. Regardless of what kind of war this may be, the most important question is what kind of people are we.
I have already e-mailed the White House concerning this issue and am about to e-mail my Congressional delegation. I urge everyone else to do the same.

"'To those who say that our economic decisions 'have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity, and simply have not worked' I say, take a look around. I say, 'Don't let your opposition to the Recovery Act blind you to its results.' Come see what I see everywhere I go: workers rehired, factories reopened, cops on the street, teachers in the classroom, progress toward getting our economy back on the move.'" --Vice President Joe Biden

Perhaps, as Hal says in the post subsequent to the one I am quoting, Mr. Biden does have rose-colored glasses - at least at times. But I must also say that my son, after testing and with his four years of previous experience in another city, is at the top of the hire list for the local police department. Our department is able to hire needed police officers because of the stimulus money they have received. One could ask how they will continue to pay for them when the money runs out but the answer to that one is the continually - locally - increasing tax money from an expanding population which is why we need more officers in the first place. But of course the increase in money lags behind the expansion of population. The stimulus money is enabling us to hire and train - an expensive process - the officers we need now.

We all have the problem of not being able to upload.

Well, that answers my question. I have been able, finally, to download more projects so at least I can keep working.

I hate to break in on such a wonderfully evolving discussion but here is a little fact to add to the mix. According to the announcements of UAMS (at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock) on the local NPR station, as little as one soft drink a day can result in Adult Cardiac Syndrome.
So the original question still stands.
Which is healthier - a cola or a beer?

Hello Moon and Carlos. I agree keep things simple. Im 56 years old And the wife and I have accumulated to much stuff. My problem is dust magnets called collectibles. candles, vases ,do dads and the what evers. We are starting to get rid of them. what the kids and grandkids dont want gets sold. Wont get rid of the books though. We have well over 2 thousands books. Love to read.

I totally understand what you are saying. I am in the process of unloading and would be much farther along the path if I did not have to deal with other people's stuff in my home (my step-father's hoard and my son's as well). It feels like a millstone around my neck weighing me down every waking moment.
With the exception of my crystal collection and necessary furniture, dishes, plants, required clothing and textiles and a few other things I would just as soon burn it all. But not the books. I have a library as well and am seriously considering culling a few to make room for better but overall they are treasures of the mind and deserve a room of their own.
