Sorry for the hassle guys....

Realised after stuffing around that it was my fault...

I have the new machine sitting standalone and use remote access to connect to it. When this happens it logs the local user off and it stops using the video card.

My bad...!!!

I think I will install VNC onto the machine and remote into that way.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.... appreciated...

Always seems to be the simple things :)

Clean Operating System install?
You need to do all the major updates before the driver will install properly.

GPU Missing - Ready to start (0.195 CPU's + 1 NVIDIA GPU)
in the tasks list.
Very odd....

Right click on the Desktop, Display Settings, Advanced Display setting, Display Adaptor properties, at the top in Adaptor type does it say "Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050Ti" or just "Microsoft basic display adapter?"

I should have clarified.

Just did a clean install of the Boinc Client. As for the Adapter Type - it does say Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti

Um, I can think of only one, did you get the video driver from Nvidia or Microsoft?

If from Microsoft, go to Nvidia and get a driver from there, try and do a clean install.

If from Nvidia, I'm lost.

Hey everyone...

Finally built a new machine and got it processing tasks but noticed it isn't utilising the 1050Ti at all. It is only doing CPU tasks.

Machine can be found here https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8241353

I did the normal install of the Boinc client.

I am going to try a reinstall of Boinc as I definitely want the 1050Ti crunching as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The cards are very capable of overclocking easily and the fans to an OK job at cooling them but to achieve longevity of the cards is my ultimate goal. Also it will give me a good grounding for when I build my QUAD 1080 Goliath.

My suggestion, given the rumours that GP102 based Titan might include HBM2, would be to hold the phone, unless you have so much money that it doesn't matter :D

I would love to have so much money that it didnt matter, but I dont think the wife would let me sell the investment property to finance a few new machines.. Not sure why she wouldnt but that is my general feeling... ;)

When you did the install of Win7 did you let Windows do all the driver installs for your MB accessories?

If not then grab the disc that came with your MB and install the drivers and utils that are on the disc.

You may find that although Windows shows that all devices are installed and running they may not be 100% and using the drivers supplied by the manufacturer may fix the issue.

After doing that I would uninstall your Nvidia drivers and do a clean install of them again and then try Boinc installation after that.

Honest question (not snark): since 750tis are not high end cards, why would they need water cooling? Or, to put it another way, why would anyone make a water cooling plate for it? Wouldn't the market be awfully small (like just OP)?

You are correct that 750Ti's arent exactly high end cards currently, but the idea of a bit of an engineering challenge to get them crunching that little bit harder appeals to me.

I have also thought of setting up a Peltier/Water Cooling hybrid just to see hat is possible.

Did you overclock them enough that fans can not keep up with heat generation?

Now I know water cooling has been discussed several times on this forum and i do currently water cool my processor and have decided I would like to water cool my 750Ti cards.

The issue I am having is there doesnt seem to be a lot of off the shelf water block assemblies that will support my cards and will cover both the GPU and memory chips.

I was hoping that several of you may point me in the right direction.

I did find the following that may do the trick https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-thermosphere-acetal-nickel

Below is a picture of the cards. They are ASUS with the single fan assembly.

After reading this thread it has gotten the old gears in the head going.

So opinions appreciated if my logic doesn't follow correctly.

So if I build a custom perspex case with its own powersupply and place three or so of the following http://www.gumptrade.com/pci-express-1x-to-16x-adapter-riser-card-extension-powered-usb-3-0-cable-for-bitcoin-mining.html and run several GTX660TI's seeing they are rather cheap are there any issues that I havent forseen such as power feedback through the USB cable due to the other powersupply.

Any thoughts, ideas or comments are welcome.

Just an update on this. I rolled back to an older driver but was still getting crashes so I started looking at the log files and as soon as I stopped processing the V7 work units the machine has stopped crashing.

So I am going to go back to a newer driver and see what happens.

Everything I can find suggest it's a driver issue.

I'd suggest trying 344.11 as that's what I was running on my system when it had Win7 on it with no issues at all (or at least something not so recent, say 358.91).
And i'd go for a clean installation, selecting just the driver (you only need PhysX for games).

Thanks for that Grant...

I was thinking about rolling back to an older driver.

I am in the process of downloading the 344 and 358 drivers and will try them both and see what happens.

Hey Guys.....

Looking for some help.

My main machine for crunching has recently started having some issues with my dual 750 video cards.

I am getting an error in the Boinc management console saying "Unable to intialise CUDA device"

I am also getting computation errors on seti only work units.

I have recently done a fresh install of Win7 XP 64bit and have used the latest GeForce drivers and installed the basic installation with the drivers which only install the driver and the PhysX driver.

To get Seti crunching again requires a computer restart. The cards arent overclocked.

I have done all the usual things including cleaning the cards to ensure they arent overheating and their is plenty of airflow over the cards.

So if anyone has any ideas before I go and replace the cards that would be appreciated.

So I have been piecing together my ultimate crunching machine and have come up with the following. Any thoughts or ideas as to substitutions for parts etc would be appreciated.

That would have to come with one terrifying price tag.

I'd suggest looking at a cheaper LGA1151 3(or 4) * PCIe*16 slot motherboard, 16GB RAM, 2*SSDs, i7 6700 (or 6700K) CPU.
The money saved could go to some GTX 1070 GPUs. Even with their current ridiculous prices, with the above cheaper MB & CPU & SSDs they'd probably end up in the same price range as your proposed system, but pump out more work & use less power.

The best of the best of the best is nice, but paying an extra 40-50% for an extra 5-10% performance just isn't worth it IMHO.

Your not wrong when it comes with the price tag Grant. As I am already running seven machines for crunching, this one machine would allow me to retire a couple of them and use them as developement/testing machines.

I will probably have to drop my spec on the processor and maybe half the ram and drives to make it a little more viable but dreaming keeps me going...

These are what I would get, otherwise your list is ok.

Case: Thermaltake X9 Cube Case(Comes in Black or White)
Video: 4-EVGA or MSI GTX 1070 Hybrid cards(980 Ti's are more expensive to run, and 980 Ti's are possibly more expensive to buy too)
SSD: 4-Samsung 850 PRO 512GB SSD(My friend SciManStev uses this, nuf said)

Oh and welcome to the Seti Forums, on Tuesday there is an outage to do maintenance on the data base, which also makes the forum inaccessible for a few hours(4-12 hours, depending on what has happened, nothing to be alarmed about really, stuff happens and the staff knows what they are doing).

Thanks for the advice. I can get my hands on MSI GTX 1070 Founders Edition for $200 less per card but havent had any luck finding someone in Oz that stocks the Hybrid card.

As for the case excellent choice. I had overlooked that one and it is a lot cheaper.
