Latest brief recent roundup in the world of FLOSS and IT freedom:

The Ardour 3.0 digital audio workstation is ready for the MIDI studio

Ardour chief developer Paul Davis has released version 3.0 of his digital audio workstation. Ardour 3's most important new feature is the multi-track recorder's comprehensive MIDI support and MIDI sequencing functionality. Ardour supports instrument plugins in Steinberg's VST format, the AudioUnit format of Mac OS X, and the LV2 Linux standard, successor to the LADSPA format. The MIDI workflow is modelled after the audio workflow: notes played on a MIDI device can be recorded as separate tracks and then played back via a software synthesizer. ...

The Google SPDY is very good and interesting but I'm rather leery of going through their proxying to try it out. You can already experiment with it directly from the Linux world (no Google proxies needed).

And I wonder if the Windows users will get lambasted again for being the cheapskates and non-contributory-'pirates' in the Indie Bundle downloads league?

IT is what we make it,
Martin

good for Ardour that they themselves say that their program will not work well in most computers, but then again, Ardour has not worked well in the whole +10 years its been around.
But nice to know that at last they have done the midi part ready, they announced that in 2001 and now it is working already, Wau.

(of course there are still the issues of drivers for interfaces, which do not exist, but one can always use mac or windows, they work)

Windows 8 works like magic, and yes, you have learning curve with w8, but hey, you did not born being able to use computer, you had to learn it.
and i can tell you that w8 took only like an hour to learn (reading helps a lot )

actually no, they were driven out by other people, they were forced to go.

Microsoft really do want everyone on Linux.....:)

Win 8 no DVD Support - Want DVD playback? Buy Win 8 Pro

What in hell are they thinking of?

With continuing cock-ups like this, Linux just has to increase market share.

reason is, cause Win 8 will be in many ultratops and tablet´s which do not have dvd player at all.

Congratulations on that.

[edit]
But wait. According to Boincstats, you're #2 for your day. However, the guy who's #1 hasn't gotten any credit in over a year, and you'll pass him and be #1 in two days. So congratulations anyway.

i have more already, since yesterday, but boincstats did not worked yesterday.
i was on holiday from seti almost year too.

Linux is a Unix-like computer operating system assembled under the model of free and open source software development and distribution. The defining component of Linux is the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released October 5, 1991 by Linus Torvalds.

It is good for some things but it will never be a mainstream OS. The majority of the world chooses to be Wintel, so get used to it.

Your "majority of the world" have a fair and free(dom of) choice?...

IT is what we make it...
Martin

yes, the majority of the world have freedom, and in fairness, they have choose to use windows, and will not use linux, for obvious reasons.

So why does one particular OS supplier insist that the EFI boot is NOT to WORK for Linux for their software 'badge'... Cue anti-competitive behavior and fines?...

All in the world of freedoms,
Martin

why it should?
just buy computer made for linux.

Does anyone know if there is another "Judgement Day" pending?
If so I will need to plan my WU's around it if there is...I
don't wish to be caught with some unfinished work on-hand do I?

I dunno...has Harold Camping come out of hiding yet since his last guess did not come to pass?

There is another end of the world pending, the date should be 21 December 2012

So next here there will be no Xmas :D

I think this prediction is out by two days. Year 2012 adds up to 5 and the day
21st only adds up to 3. So I suspect the real day next December is the 23rd
because this adds up to 5 too. Still, either way it looks like Aristoteles is
still going to miss-out on his "roasted ham"....better celebrate early I say.

bummer.

I've worked it out now....It's the year that's wrong. December being the 12th month so adds up to 3. The 21st of this month adds up to 3 and since 2012 adds up to 5 so this is where the error has been made. The year needs to add up to 3 too so the correct year must then be 2100. Aristoteles, get your ham in for
Christmas and enjoy it and for the next 89 Christmas's to come.

yippeeee

can you hold it over 24 th of december? since in finland, as well as in sweden we have that wonderfull christmas ham, roasted in oven, that will beat that lame turkey by hundreds against zero, and i don´t care about christmas, but i do love the ham, so delay the end of the world just few days so i can eat the pork before, thank you.

This has just got to be some fabulous fantasy! It just beggars belief in ultimate abuse:

Android 'stands on Microsoft's shoulders', says MS lawyer

And there is only a modest charge for doing so

The comments are far more informative than the article.

With the various other amazing patents attacks, this is quickly degenerating into a patents Armageddon beyond all reason. I'm starting to wonder if there is going to be some very serious fallout and collateral damage that is going to spread beyond the immediate arena...

IT is what we make it,
Martin

actally, the comments were not informative at all, they were just not intellectual comments over issue that has nothing to do alleged patent violations, but i am sure yhat you martin can show as that the alleged patent violations are without cause.

A time to petition to defend your freedom?

Stand up for your freedom to install free software!

There's quite a bit of FUD flying around this still. Here's a nicely balanced article for the latest round and comments on some of the various articles:

Microsoft isn't the enemy when it comes to blocking Linux on Windows 8 PCs

Summary: … it’s the OEMs you have to watch out for. ...

There's a few twists and turns in amongst all that lot. Needles to say, there is some very good Microsoft business strategy behind it all, even if I personally do not agree with the methods and intent. To my mind, this is not useful or beneficial to Mankind...

All a question of how you value your freedom?

IT is what we make it!
Martin

how about selling computers with linux installed allready?
i think there is a market for that, according to you.

politicians would cut xmas....

The worlds people could cut out Xmas by simply refusing to buy anything associated with it. That would rattle a few corporate feathers ...

In this I agree with you. Stop shopping for christmas. Use the money to help a deserving family with food for their table or support a food bank. Simply tell the kids that there will be no toys for christmas. Clothes yes, but no toys. I grew up right after WW-II and we had some chritmases where the only thing under the tree were clothes (some shirts and pants made by my mother).

Let the junk from China stay on the shelves. That should put a panic into Wall Street and big businesses. If you must buy then do some research and make sure you're buying products Made in America.

i would not gain anything by buying products mede in america, so i won´t.

... For you & I, a DVI or HDMI cable would more than likely be the solution, but ...

So far, regardless of what mobo or gpu, Windows does install & is quite usable by just using the generic video drivers, so why can't Linux do the same?

Some systems follow standards honestly. Some don't... And then Windows has a long history of 'sometimes doing things differently'... ;-)

The big change in recent years is that more and more manufacturers have adopted Linux and so hopefully the "quirk" you've stumbled across for the on-board (integrated) graphics will be an annoyance of the past.

Meanwhile, a web search of that combination might show a fix. However, sounds like your graphics card is a much better and robust fix. You'll also avoid the small slowdown from the integrated graphics stealing some of the system RAM bandwidth.

Happy crunchin',
Martin

that is the problem with linux distros, you usually have to start fixing problems once you have installed some distro, it just won´t work straight ahead, and the 3% boost of the post below, won´t actually matter cause your craphic card won´t work. bummer.
