Just throwing it out there, so for my understanding.

Could it be that the server backlog on validation and also since the quota's were increased, that this culminated in everybody's RAC increasing at a slower rate than before.

Yep and they just keep coming, here is 2 that hit me, also I couldnt see in earlier lists

Dank https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8670499

Rafael https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8875140

Has anyone thought of the following,

Email the team founder that all these hosts respectively belong to and/or

Put an advisory on the home page of Seti@home regarding the situation with OpenCL and these cards.

Just thinking out aloud here :-)

Some bad results are still coming through when AMD machines with the bad drivers pair up 2 out of 3. At its worst the problem was on par with bad CPUs in term of bad inserted results (which are usually a few out of every 100,000 results) . Compared to the amount of data we lose to RFI it's small, but we still try to prevent it.

If we decide the database and the download server can handle the additional load, I might bump the overflow quorum to 4 next week.

Greetings Eric

Thankyou for the update :-)

Well Santa dropped of an MSI GTX 1660 Super for Christmas, so have that now in the box replacing a GTX 970 ITX model.

Time to let it have a run and see how we go.

Interesting I think I have to agree with you in regards to the power consumption of the 980 which surprised me

Considering I've paid ~$100 each for the most recent of these 980s used on eBay, it takes it into the realm of the doable while letting me get close to competing with the "big boys".

All good. I was just surprised that the power consumption was around the same that was all

There is also the price difference between the 980 and a 2060.

I did find one of Vypers machines running 2 x 2060 and 1 x 1660ti running at 285K Rac, so roughly over 90k average for each card.

I just averaged it, but more likely the 2060s are pulling 100k each and the 1660ti is around the 85k.

Just some food for thought for those who want to dream as well.

Cheers and Happy Crunching.

How is your GTX 1660 travelling, tried to have a look at your statistics, but it seems you have it the PC with multi GPU setup.

Hoping to see some feedback/results sometime soon, may help me source some new GPU's that could easily replace a GTX 1060 and GTX 970.

Happy Crunching.

But after reading your goals that you have set, I shall leave and wish you good luck in getting another Aussie team into Top 50, at the rate you are going, should be Top 40 soon.

Greetings All

Totally understand about PLAYONLINUX, I am trialling to test out a game that my girls play and it suits my needs.

Apologies for muddying the water, by the way just installed on Xubuntu 19.10 beta.

This time I used the Synaptic Package Manager, I selected WINE and it picked up all its dependencies and installed.

Ran the installer as instructed on Boinctasks website, and no errors about

it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it.
as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development"

Installed and then asked the two questions and then started up.

Cheers
Mark

PS. I do fear that we have gone way off topic, so here endeth my input. :-)

Greetings All

Well, I reloaded MINT 19 on the VM and start again from scratch, but this time I installed the PLAYONLINUX as well, cause its a front end for WINE.

This time I only got the error
it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it.
as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development"

So I did that, and ran the install again and it worked no worries, even gave me the 2 questions at the end of the install.

I think installing the PLAYONLINUX front end, adds some extras, thats the only conclusion I can come to.

Each Linux Desktop Environment has there own little quirks, I have my main Linux Cruncher running Mint 19 and has been rock solid, since I put in on there. Sometimes it doubles up as a Home Media Player as well.

Myself, am playing around with Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Debian 10 and now Xubuntu 19.10 beta is being downloaded and going to give that a go as well.

Have fun all and yes we are all different and run different environments but we all come to this place in search of answers to the universe.

HI there, just booted up Linux Mint 19.02 (VM) and then installed WINE

Ran the boinctasks installer, this came up
Command 'wine' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install wine-development
sudo apt install wine-stable

So i go back into the Software Centre and install these two packages.

Then I ran the installer again, and i got the folloiwng

Once that was fixed, I ran the installer again, wohoo it finally runs and I get the answer the two questions at then end of the install process.

Hi Tazz,

I just went through and found a bunch of junk left behind after uninstalling BT. I deleted the top most folder containing all the junk and tried, ONCE again, to install BT. It got all the way to the final setup step with the "Install" button. It never asked what OS I was installing in. Could you tell me what you did to start the install process? I have done it the way the BT website instructions say and I have tried by right clicking the downloaded file and clicking the "Open With" option and selecting Wine. I must have installed this thing at least half a dozen times and never once was I asked what OS and it gave me a message that the installer needs to run as administrator.

Ok, I just had a thought. What if I just double click the downloaded BT file? I'll try that right now... :)

[edit]
That was a big giant NO GO! The installation setup was exactly the same as the last half dozen or so times I've tried installing it. No askie what OS and administrator has to run the installer! :(
[/edit]

Have a great day! :)

Hi Sirian

This is the step by step I did on an an up to date Xubuntu 19.04 (in a VM)

Installed WINE (4.0-1) through Software Centre
Installed PLAYONLINUX (V4.3.4-1) through Software Centre (I intend to play with this later for other programs - so I installed it at the same time)
Opened up a Terminal
Switched to the directory with the BoincTasks.exe (mine is the Downloads directory), so that would be CD Downloads.
As per Boinctasks website ran this command - wine setup_32_64_boinc_tasks_1_8_0.exe
Dialog Box pops up - Select language to use during this installation
EULA dialog box pops up - Select agree
Welcome to Boinctasks installation dialog box pops up
Select file destination dialog box pops up
Select start menu dialog box pops up
Create a desktop shortcut dialog box pops up
Ready to install dialog box pops up
Completing the installation dialog box pops up with the option to run Boinctasks already selected, select finish.
Are you running Windows dialog box pops up Yes No
Are you running Linux with Wine dialog box pops up Yes No
Boinctasks v1.80 is now up and running.

As anyone had success running on a Linux Mint Desktop, as I have only tried Lubuntu and Xubuntu

Regards
Mark

Greetings All

Just loaded up Lubuntu 19.04 in a VM, as I was playing around with a new Linux Desktop Environment and thought I would have a go at installing Boinc Tasks.

I am just advising that as per comments from Keith and Sleepy, I was asked during the installation the following

A. Using it in Windows Y/N, if you selected N then it would ask the next question.

B. Using it in Wine in Linux Y/N

And then it finished and asked me if I wanted to start BoincTasks.

I have not installed BOINC as yet, as I am still deciding if I like Lubuntu, as I am also giving Xubuntu 19.04 a run, as I am a bit over MINT.

50K RAC per card, is decent. I was expecting better, since theres been good things said about these cards.

By the looks of it, they should finally settle around 60K - 65K RAC but who knows where they will finally plateau
