Posted 27 Dec 2019 by tazzduke Post: Some bad results are still coming through when AMD machines with the bad drivers pair up 2 out of 3. At its worst the problem was on par with bad CPUs in term of bad inserted results (which are usually a few out of every 100,000 results) . Compared to the amount of data we lose to RFI it's small, but we still try to prevent it. Greetings Eric Thankyou for the update :-) Mark |

Posted 21 Dec 2019 by tazzduke Post: Interesting I think I have to agree with you in regards to the power consumption of the 980 which surprised me There is also the price difference between the 980 and a 2060. I did find one of Vypers machines running 2 x 2060 and 1 x 1660ti running at 285K Rac, so roughly over 90k average for each card. I just averaged it, but more likely the 2060s are pulling 100k each and the 1660ti is around the 85k. Just some food for thought for those who want to dream as well. Cheers and Happy Crunching. Hoping to see some feedback/results sometime soon, may help me source some new GPU's that could easily replace a GTX 1060 and GTX 970. Happy Crunching. Regards Mark |

Posted 28 Sep 2019 by tazzduke Post: Greetings All Totally understand about PLAYONLINUX, I am trialling to test out a game that my girls play and it suits my needs. Apologies for muddying the water, by the way just installed on Xubuntu 19.10 beta. This time I used the Synaptic Package Manager, I selected WINE and it picked up all its dependencies and installed. Ran the installer as instructed on Boinctasks website, and no errors about it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it. as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development" Installed and then asked the two questions and then started up. Cheers Mark PS. I do fear that we have gone way off topic, so here endeth my input. :-) |

Posted 28 Sep 2019 by tazzduke Post: Greetings All Well, I reloaded MINT 19 on the VM and start again from scratch, but this time I installed the PLAYONLINUX as well, cause its a front end for WINE. This time I only got the error it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it. as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development" So I did that, and ran the install again and it worked no worries, even gave me the 2 questions at the end of the install. I think installing the PLAYONLINUX front end, adds some extras, thats the only conclusion I can come to. Each Linux Desktop Environment has there own little quirks, I have my main Linux Cruncher running Mint 19 and has been rock solid, since I put in on there. Sometimes it doubles up as a Home Media Player as well. Myself, am playing around with Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Debian 10 and now Xubuntu 19.10 beta is being downloaded and going to give that a go as well. Have fun all and yes we are all different and run different environments but we all come to this place in search of answers to the universe. Regards Mark |

Posted 28 Sep 2019 by tazzduke Post: HI there, just booted up Linux Mint 19.02 (VM) and then installed WINE Ran the boinctasks installer, this came up Command 'wine' not found, but can be installed with: sudo apt install wine-development sudo apt install wine-stable So i go back into the Software Centre and install these two packages. Then I ran the installer again, and i got the folloiwng mintytardis@mintytardis-VirtualBox:~/Downloads$ wine setup_32_64_boinc_tasks_1_8_0.exe it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it. as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development" wine: created the configuration directory '/home/mintytardis/.wine' 0012:err:ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory buffer for interface {00000131-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} 0012:err:ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory buffer for interface {6d5140c1-7436-11ce-8034-00aa006009fa} 0012:err:ole:StdMarshalImpl_MarshalInterface Failed to create ifstub, hres=0x80004002 0012:err:ole:CoMarshalInterface Failed to marshal the interface {6d5140c1-7436-11ce-8034-00aa006009fa}, 80004002 0012:err:ole:get_local_server_stream Failed: 80004002 0014:err:ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory buffer for interface {00000131-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} 0014:err:ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory buffer for interface {6d5140c1-7436-11ce-8034-00aa006009fa} 0014:err:ole:StdMarshalImpl_MarshalInterface Failed to create ifstub, hres=0x80004002 0014:err:ole:CoMarshalInterface Failed to marshal the interface {6d5140c1-7436-11ce-8034-00aa006009fa}, 80004002 0014:err:ole:get_local_server_stream Failed: 80004002 Could not load wine-gecko. HTML rendering will be disabled. it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it. as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development" Could not load wine-gecko. HTML rendering will be disabled. wine: configuration in '/home/mintytardis/.wine' has been updated. it looks like wine32-development is missing, you should install it. as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32-development" wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\home\mintytardis\Downloads\setup_32_64_boinc_tasks_1_8_0.exe. So I install the wine32-development package, using sudo apt-get install wine32-development. Once that was fixed, I ran the installer again, wohoo it finally runs and I get the answer the two questions at then end of the install process. So of the 3 Linux Desktop Variants, Xubuntu was the easiest to install on. Regards Mark |

Are you running Windows dialog box pops up Yes No Are you running Linux with Wine dialog box pops up Yes No Boinctasks v1.80 is now up and running. Posted 27 Sep 2019 by tazzduke Post: Greetings All Just loaded up Lubuntu 19.04 in a VM, as I was playing around with a new Linux Desktop Environment and thought I would have a go at installing Boinc Tasks. I am just advising that as per comments from Keith and Sleepy, I was asked during the installation the following A. Using it in Windows Y/N, if you selected N then it would ask the next question. B. Using it in Wine in Linux Y/N And then it finished and asked me if I wanted to start BoincTasks. I have not installed BOINC as yet, as I am still deciding if I like Lubuntu, as I am also giving Xubuntu 19.04 a run, as I am a bit over MINT. Regards |
