Chris,

Are you using Windows standard SCR? What time have you set for starting the SCR?

I have just set it as the screensaver by means of 'control panel' (you will gather that my IT skills are somewhat limited). I have set it to come on after one minute. What happens is that, after the minute of inactivity, the SETI screen flashes up and then disappears. If I leave the pc alone, it does this after each minute (hope that makes sense).

Chris,

I can't activate SETI as SCR on my PC, but it doesn't matter. You choose any type of scr file as a screensaver,(NOT SETI) for instance WINDOWS start screen. You set it to 1 minute to activate(don't touch your mouse) just wait patiently. In the energypart of your pc is a possibility to set when the screen shall go down. Is that part activated? I have 20 minutes, after that period goes my screen off.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain this very well. The screen doesn't go blank (as I imagine it would with a energy saving setting) it just reverts to whatever was on the screen before the screensaver came on. I am doubly puzzled because I had the SETI screensaver set up on my last pc in exactly the same way and it worked fine and I have had it set on this machine and it worked fine until a few months ago. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that it is a work pc and they are constantly updading it. I suspect it might be some sort of conflict but I just can't understand why the screensaver pops up and is working fine but then, almost instantly disappears. Don't expend too much time on this, I just wondered if it was a common and easily remedied problem.

Chris,

I just read another remark in the message board about Classic SETI that worked as a screensaver. Do you by any chance using an old version?

Insofar as SETI@Home is using BOINC... you are being supported by government funding.

Prove this. I DARE YOU. They DID use the NSF fund to have SETI as a testbed for the development of BOINC, and now that the test is done, they are SOLELY responsible for their own funding.

Insofar as you are guests on Berkeley's servers.. you are receiving government aid.

Again, another thing you PROVE. I doubt you will. This project is not being run as any government anything, anymore. It was, years ago, but no longer has any funding outside of the grants we as users, or private sectors give it.

I cannot help but notice the descent into calling me stupid.

Your own words. No one has said that. Some people can not understand things the same as others. It does not make then stupid. I have family that have disabilities, and they are called stupid by people all the time, I know they are not, they have some of the best IQs in our family, and I would never state anyone is stupid. Getting someones mind around something is not the same as being stupid.

Has it occured to you that perhaps I am not stupid? We both know it isn't the case.... but one might well consider people who cannot recognize garbage software for garbage "stupid" or "obstinate fools".

This last sentence is quoted from your message directly (as are all of the other quotes). Did you realize you misspelled occurred?

And who are those who are perpetually flaming EVERYONE who comes to this board and who tells you the stuff doesn't work? Those of you who think you are God's gift to SETI are running it into the ground. NO one wants to deal with know-it-alls who plainly are nothing of the sort.

The first few HOURS I was here I saw the "usual crew" flame a half dozen people.

In every case it is the user must be some kind of moron for not wanting to waste their time on a million "try this, it might work" forms of "advice".

I can not deny there have not been flames. There have. I consider your messages flames, since you have already been proven that you were wrong in many sections. You say exactly the same things over and over. Nothing is ever really new. Your case has been heard by many, and has been shown to be nothing but flame bait.

I can say that I've seen many different intelligences install and use the software. Those who can barely run a computer, to professionals of all sectors of life. It worked for them. If it doesn't work for you, well that's your choice. You made your choice well known. It's become stale, and it's no longer worth people's time to explain this to you.

This is my last reply to your messages. I am sure others will keep replying, but I have decided that it's not worth my professional time to explain that it works for many people, has been working for many people, and will continue to work for people for many days. You hate it, that is understood, and you have said your peace. Let the whole issue rest.

Hi Pooh,
Is Caroline thinking that we are wasting money for UCB or is she upset by the fact that we are using the server of UCB. Is the work performed by all of us connected just a waist of time or what? I'm very puzzled by this discussion, but I'm only a swede with a very little brain.

My name is Bernt and I'm from Sweden.
I just joined a couple of days ago and BOINC is running smoothly. My PC managed to get some work done and that is great. Just a quick hello from rainy Sweden
