You could try using something like BartPE. I've not tried it for BOINC, but the only time I did use it, it worked for what I wanted it to do (rescue files off an installed, but non-bootable, HDD, and transfer them over a network to a working machine).

So the networking support is there, and hence internet for direct communication with BOINC projects if you're behind a suitable router: I wouldn't try to include antivirus in a PE build!

So all you would have to do (!) is find a way to install and auto-run BOINC - presumably with account credentials already supplied - and copy it all to a RAMdisk or flashdrive so BOINC has somewhere writable to store its bits and pieces.

Not a job for the faint-hearted, but I'd be interested to hear if you get it running.

A good thing would be a small linux system that boots linux and runs boinc in ramdisk, so that no harddrive is needed. Save the wu's and boinc settins on a sub stick or something. So that a reboot could be easily done without re-setting everything (or even copy the stick to run many other pc's)

can you direct me to the recommended kip software to open the file for optimized client? i'm running win 98 and can't find it and must have it. i believe it was called _______7 ?

Regarding your PIII, what kind is it? Slot 1 or Socket 370 (Koloth/Katmai or Coppermine).

Katmai's and higher should do pretty well for themselves, although Koloth's might be a little disappointing. I have a 550 Katmai and it's fairly quick using Simon's SSE app, especially compared to contemporaries.

If I'm reading this right, there is one of two things you could do:

1.) Just wait the 24 hours to clear the "Bad Results" flag on the server and get new work then.

2.) Detach the host and reattach under a new Host ID.

When you uninstalled BOINC, did you delete the app_info.xml file too?

i used add or remove programs in win xp control panel. if that removes it then, yes

If you want to start "clean", you need to delete the BOINC folder since the uninstaller leaves the config files and the contents of the project and slot directories intact. Keep in mind you will have to reattach to all the projects, or restore the specific project files from a backup in this case.

<edit> From looking at your host, it looks like all you need to do is shut down BOINC, go into the SAH project directory, delete the app_info file, restart BOINC, manually update the project, and you should be good to go (with the stock app of course).

Then you could try getting the optimized app setup again if you wanted.

been there done that also ran benchmark for what it is worth, my other two systems are running on the same prefs,and are not having any problems it seems to be a machine specific prbablem, i used control panel to remove boinc, then i deleted all instances of boic and other client files, then emptied recyle bin , then restarted system download boinc 5.4.11 and here is what boinc says i coppied everything after the last error mess:

Does this computer get used by anyone but you? I ask because it seems to be a file permission error. Here is the error message from Boinc: "<core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version>

CreateProcess() failed - The system cannot find the file specified. (0x2)
</message>"
It says you are using the latest version, 5.4.11 but that Boinc cannot find the file it is looking for. If you have several people using this pc, that would make sense. Also did you install this as a 'service' or as a regular installation?
