1) Message boards : Number crunching : Overflow or -9s on CUDA32 (Message 2001908)

Post:
My only active cruncher seems to have decided to only crunch CUDA32 on GPU, where it used to (nearly exclusively) run CUDA42 tasks, as they were a touch faster than CUDA50 (higher flops). I've just looked at a batch of CUDA32s and they all seem to be -9, but they're counting as valid even against CPU tasks on other hosts that have reported normally.

Is there any way to stop my machine crunching CUDA32s?

OK, bit of system info to start of with:

Now, seeing you chaps run CLInfo.exe intrigued me, so I did.

Here is the output I get:

ERROR: clgetDeviceInfo(-30)

This is the return from running the version of CLInfo found in the x86-64, and the x86 version returns exactly the same. However, the only error units I have had recently have been from a seriously hard crash that I caused.

My installation process of the graphics cards came as following:
Install HD5850 and Drivers;
Install GT240 and Drivers;
I then applied something known as the HybridPhysX mod, as I wished to use the GT240 in my games to handle PhysX.
This works perfectly, in Seti aswell.

I don't know if this is much help, but you aren't the only one with the ERROR: clgetDeviceInfo(-30)

Gentlemen.

I have just added a GT240 to my rig, in an effort to double my RAC: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5730784

Having read a number of threads I decided to install the Lunatics apps for CPU and GPU, and then to watch the results that were being reported for any errors.

Two errors have recently shown themselves, one on CPU, and one on GPU. These units both returned -9 errors, but they were both reported at the same time, which I think is odd, considering these are the only two units that have shown the error:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=685558199 GPU
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=685432987 CPU

If you look at the sent/received times, they are in line for my usual processing times..

Any thoughts or diagnosis?

Euan

Hello

This may be (and there are millions of other possible reasons) due to the fact that if a NVidia Card running up-to-date drivers detects an ATi card in the same system, it disables PhysX, or CUDA, as we require here.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2009/09/28/mix-ati-and-nvidia-lose-physx/1

More likely, it's because setting up CUDA can be furiously complicated.

Sorry I've got no work around, maybe one of the more experienced can shed some light on this topic.
