1) Message boards : Number crunching : Seti in General (Message 876427)

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore.

Good luck guys. When a PC goes a week without work will pull off SETI, 1 at a time.

Wish you all well.

Good luck, with the projects you continue with.

But do think, as there is a lack of posts at the moment complaining about getting tasks, you should be asking, "What am I doing wrong?"

WinterKnight, I am not doing anything wrong. And as a 10 year member of SETI, I do not think that is a valid or reasonable question coming from another 10 year member.

But, thanks, it does go along my reason for thinking of other projects.

I do love this project. I have been waiting for the few simple IF statements to send AP out to the same versions, or a few simple IF statements to send out the new crazy AP or AP 5 out to processors that can run in a reasonable time, etc. It would not be hard to have a group of processor types that get assigned work unit types.

Good luck all, will keep reading about SETI.

Thats why after this AP gets done on my old P4 i will do no more AP any version. At least till i rebuild or buy new comp. my mac which could handle AP gets none because , were lucky:)

I have unchecked the 'If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?' again. Some of my older machines are having a hard time with V5 :)

I had rechecked it since there as so many 'no work available' messages.

If you are in it for the credit or for the science, it does not matter as both sides are helping the project out.

Some people do not know about anything behind the science, but still crunch and like to see their credit go up.

If they notice a problem on the rare occasion that they check on their computer, and they do come in here, they should not be told they are bad because they care about credits. It does not service to the project at all.

I rarely voice my concern over AP due to somebody telling me that I should not question. I have not been part of SETI since '99 just for credits, but if my computer does work, I would like for it to get the credit.

Pretty sure I will get a 0 on this AP WU. Three others have a no reply and his computer has only retured one or two of the 478 tasks it downloaded.

Worry not (yet). It can go out up to 10 times before it is ditched.

F.

I thought it was 5 :) I don't like getting a 0 credit, but I kind of half expect it when an AP work unit slips though to one of my computers.

I am looking to add a new stable project. I tried SDG but that turned into a lot of CPU cycles out the window.

Is there another project like SETi or Einstein that does not update the .exe files all the time?

Thanks for the info.

I have a few PCs [over 50 on SETI] running BOINC and am looking for an answer as to why there is this issue with SETI. Since S@H is my first choice with projects.

I am one of those set and forget type of users, I admit. I only run the standard stock applications.

For a lot of the PC's I have on my account I have to login as myself in order to download dll's and exe's.

Just had the same problem adding another computer, and had the other night adding 6 others.

Any of the project people know why this is happening? I have been adding E@H and CDPN to the new computers but would like to do E@H and S@H.

SETI work as been low, most of my computers are set to SETI/Einstein and my Einstein credits has taken a jump in stats the last few days. Some of my PC's are getting 0 new SETI tasks when I went to check on the reason.

I'm only crunching Astropulse -- I only do Multibeam if AP isn't available.

If your system never gets credit, you need to figure out what is wrong with it, but the occasional missed (or long-delayed) credit is just part of the game, and happens to everyone.

Yes, I do agree with you Ned. I do not care so much about credits as I care about how the project is being looked after.

We are getting a lot of posts from people about 0 credit for AP work units. It should be looked at by the project administration.

My Linux box has been working on an Astropulse binary for 7.5 days (629,645 seconds to be exact).

Task ID 1082351622, work unit ID 361753301

Credit claimed 756.27. Credit given 0. No reason given... No error

Thank you very much SETI and goodbye. I'll find another project.

A lot of new crunchers have expressed some frustration over this issue, but in time you do usually get your credits.

Good luck on other projects.

if your going crunch because of some number.. best that you go now

Some crunchers express this but I think that since we see a lot of posts expressing questions on the issue, maybe it should be looked at if they want AP to be accepted.

I also have AP turned off till the issue is resolved.

What about those of us who just don't like the way Boinc 6 sets up on the system and prefer the older structure? Honestly, there's nothing wrong with 5.10.45, 5.10.28, or 5.10.13 (all of which I use), so what's your problem with these versions that makes you want to just cut them off?

-Dave

I agree. I only install 5.10.45 on PC's that I bring on. I like the service install where I can set to my network ID and do the work when the PC is not in use. I have tried a few PC's with 6.2.19, and I do not like the set up.
