Tony,
I got part of it under control now, I'm covering the small bits and tidying up a few things.

Namely:

BOINC 5.2.x features not documented.
BOINC features that have moved in the version changes.

If anything pops up that hasn't been changed in the WIKI because of a versioning change, please e-mail me or another WIKI editor (List here) and we'll try our hardest to maintain it in P.D.B's absence.

My e-mail is cjm <at> cjmweb <dot> fsnet <dot> co <dot> uk

Does anyone have a phone number or other "direct" way to contact Paul or his family? Just in case there is anything any of us could do to help...

I only have his e-mail. Then again, doesn't everyone!

Well, seeing as I am one of the 27 users in the WIKI, I have been updating stuff so that it is compatible for v5.2.x because new users are trying to find buttons that don't exist.

Seeing as P.D.B. doesn;t seem to be around to update the WIKI, I will go in and update the picture. Thanks for spotting this.

[sarcasm on]
Well, staying on topic, it could be that the influx of new users is in fact the death of BOINC SETI, because the servers could die due to a the load.
[sarcasm off]

Not really, it might just be that we se a little load issue on Dec 15th.

BOINC Automatically reports results when they are within one day or expiring, I think. Do not worry. You can manually click on the project and then Update on the Projects tab to force it to be reported.

Did you know?

Projects don't always run smoothly, in fact some can be very unreliable. Should you want to ensure that you keep crunching numbers even when your favourite project is down, attach to another project or even a few projects and set their resource shares to 1 while putting the primary project resource share to 10000.

Did you also know?

With regards to projects being inaccessible, you can actually see whether the project can be accessed by an independant source. Point your web-browser to http://boincprojectstatus.ath.cx and look at the information for the project of your choosing.

Well, at my school, they kindly allowed me to install BOINC on my home directory (equivelant of My Documents). I did so, and no matter which PC I upload from, it never complains about host name changes. So as long as it shares the SAME path and uses the same client_state.xml file, it should work.

Just copy the linux BOINC folder to the Windows on shutdown and the Windows folder to Linux on start up (under Linux this is) and then yous should be OK.

My AMD Sempron 2400 runs at about 46C idle (case off) and 55C BOINCed (case off) with the case on, the temperatures rise by nearly 10C!!!

Is this far too hot?

I suggest you see you network administrator for the proxy settings and then put them into BOINC and see what happens.

All these units exit after a short time of crunching:
21my04ab.27064.2002.273584.174
21my04ab.27064.2002.273584.186
21my04ab.27064.2002.273584.187
21my04aa.11937.354.204836.201
21my04aa.11937.1170.829832.11

Is there something wrong in general with 21my04a* WU's?
Will there be taken any actions, eg. taking all 21my04a* WU's out of the "Ready to send" queue?

Answer: Nothing wrong with a 21my04aa here!

Looks like something may be wrong on your PC?
EDIT: There's just too many spikes, gaussians etc. in those WUs.

Theory has it that a 450Mhz CPU that spends 10,000 CPU seconds doing work will get as much credit as a 2.66Ghz CPU that spends 10,000 CPU seconds doing work.

In reality the values differ slightly, but on average it is about right.

Take this example:

450Mhz CPU = 15,000 CPU seconds/WU
2.66Ghz CPU = 5,000 CPU seconds/WU

The 2.66 Ghz machine will run 3 WUs in the time it takes the 450Mhz to run 1, and the 450Mhz will claim 3 times as much as the 2.66 Ghz per WU. This balances it out.

Spectrum,
Try the following:

Type http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi into your browser and see what you get. If it's a 500 error (Page cannot be displayed/Internal Server Error) then you need to check every system between your PC and the internet including proxies etc.

If it all appears fine, ask Tigher.

Tried it and got this back

You seem to be viewing this page in a WWW browser. Visit the <a href="../">main page</a>.

I don't know if its what I am meant to see, oh and thanks for the input CJ.

That's good news. That means you have access from your browser. Was this on the PC that is having problems or not. Try it there if you haven't because that seems to be a little confusing if it is. Make sure proxys are setup correctly. I know sometimes people turn on proxys and then leave them on.

Yes, folks, it's probably nearly time to bring back the graphs because the good old validator is dead! They (Berkeley) have turned them off, but now we have about 150K wus sitting to validate.

Oops.

Anyone care to explain the mess?

Mess?

They turned the validators and assimilators off to free resources for other tasks.

Then they turned 'em back on, and things got caught up.

We (by which I mean most of the folks on the message boards) are way too sensitive when it comes to things like this. When the validators were turned back on, the queue was despatched fairly quickly.

I posted that before a message appeard on the home page. So no guesses why I did it!

If you run more than one project, it is how often it should change between the projects. If you only run SETI then this is not a problema and you can leave it set at 60.
