I finger'd it out, on extending the contact time to increase WU's. Took a few
cinder blocks on the melon. Will do, thanks Dirk

The issue with the e-mail idea is that the hundreds of thousands of e-mails that would go out would take days. Plus there already are servers that had considered Berkeley's last mass e-mail as SPAM, and blocked them. Plus there are so many who forget to update their e-mail address that it becomes a hassle with all the bouncing.

Nope e-mail will not work.

I am thinking this one-off was short notice to them. Since it was only announced a few hours before it happened, they probably did not have much time to react.

As for pushing more down, your settings state how much you want, if they change that and people see they have more work than they request, they'd blow up, and start aborting work.

You do not need to come to the site daily, if you get an RSS news reader, and subscribe to the feed from SETI. This usually has those alerts as soon as they go online. Then you would know.

Other than that, it's pretty impossible for them to make other types of notifications.

Agree with the e-mail thinking. But for the repetative down-times they could
size-up (WU's) so that we could get more work done instead of being idle. And
by no-means am I trying to point fingers here - just trying to 'finger' a way
to keep working! through the rough spots... (Keep in mind here that I use a
20lb sledge to hit any key...!!) When you talk about 'settings' are you talking about the amount of CPU usage I dedicate or is there another line I should be looking at for this?
Thanks to all for the 'comeback'. Glad to know that a lot of this 'difficult'
stuff has been thought through already.

Hey guys(girls included!) When there is a known outage time, how about loading us up for the
'Down-Time' with extra WU's so that we can con-
tinue to work. Don't get me wrong here, but I can't
live on the SETI site, to keep track of Pub'd
outages. I know that we can do this ourselves.
Better yet, how bout an Admin e-mail to a short
notice outage... Thanks, Stevehusker
