1) Message boards : Number crunching : 6 years of dedication... (Message 120134)

Post:
On the 2 June Id been with SETI@home for six whole years!

To be honest, I don't think anything has been more stable in my life :)
Since 1999;

Iv lived on 2 different continents,
Iv lived in 3 different countries,
Iv lived in 4 different cities,
Iv had atleast 5 girlfriends,
Iv changed every bit in my computers, several times,
etc etc etc...

All my units have been processed on my own -home- equipment, ranging from;
a Mac that took 87 hours for each WU,
a 333Mhz Celeron, a 700 Celeron, a 1.8 Celeron,
Till today, when Im running a 2.3Mhz+ Overclocked AMD that churns out WU every 2 hours!
Every puter has been crunching 24/7 when possible.

In 20 days I might reach 5000wu, if I don't outlive the project :)

Now, to my penny's worth:
I have tried BOINC several times from BETA till Recent, and I have to say it is living up to its name! What a heap of sh*t!
When SETI@home ("classic") is closing down, so am I (together with most others).

So Long, and Thanx for all the Fish !!!

Celeron 1.8@1.99

Its 23:30, and my sys is relatively happy;

CPU 59C/Case 32C/ HD 31C

CPU Fan: 3375 RPM
Case In: 2987 RPM
Case Out: ? (More than in..)

With 6 fans in the bloody box, its a bit noisy though...

During the day in the heat, it normally runs something like this:

CPU 66C/Case 40C with SETI (24/7)
CPU 59C/Case 38C w/o SETI

And yes, I have considered using that spare fridge for something useful...

Id like to secound (or rather, pentum..) this..
I still can't receive any WU, but updated msg's that shows things are being done, is easing my pain easily!

Until things work, back to 'classic'.

Im sorry, but calling anyone that would like to help me stupid?

PS: Learn to quote msg's correctly.
PPS: Now, sit back and smile, like I do.
PPPS: I'm not smiling giving you advice, I'm smiling at the nonsense of life.
PPPPS: If life has something to smile about, is it then nonsense?

*eberndl: Thank you so much - Towards 2500 Together ! :)

*Toby: Are you suggesting that this lovely girl has a need for an e-penis? ;) Thanx for putting me on the GMail idea in the first place, and now, a reason to crunch SETI classic for a bit more :) PS: _If_ I had money, I wouldn't spend it on an e-mail account, nor on eBay..

*@huns0004: Even though I was sincere in my offer, it was ment for fun. I brought with me the soul of www.gmailswap.com. The units will still be crunched (Whola Science!), but for someone elses credit (Whola Nonsense!).
But, even nonsense can have a value my friend:
1. If I find ET during this week, eberndl gets the glory (+ all the rest of us).
2. eberndl will get a 2500 diploma earlier than if I didn't do this.
3. eberndl will also have my eternal gratitude and a smile round her mouth cause she's done something good(tm). :)

Surely you can see the effect award/credit has on this project? Without it, it would seem we were putting all our efforts into a black hole! Constructed 'value', but then again, isn't all?

*Bill Barto: Advice: Since you seem a bit paranoid, do only install BOINC on computers where you are the _only_ one with access. Your ID can be found in the account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml-file and your life is exposed! You should also start considering encrypting your emails (and maybe even forum-posts?) with at least 256bit encryption.............

So, this also means you would not let any computer compute for BOINC, except for the one you were the sole (and protected) user of?

And hey, thanx for pointing out the possibility of me being not honest and friendly.

Thanx for pointing out another flaw with BOINC.

Im _more_ than happy to give them SETI time with SETI 'classic', which is what Im using anyway.

BTW, This was a friendly offer, I don't contain malicious thought like my brother Bill here.

If anyone have an invite, please e-mail me on: boincforum[at]antwelm.com

Thanx?
