I read the manual and I think this will solve my problem:

boinc_client -attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu df0d93e384a2700f70e0bc45a1b2c96c

key is an example

I get this message as well, but the boinc as well as boincmgr do run well on my main machine, although I'm still working on to get my second machine behind my hardware firewall working for boincmgr with my account at all.

Both machines with Suse 9.3, Firewall FR114P, NIS-Port opened for LAN-Server and for any WAN.

I have to admit my NIS doesn't work as well, so there might be the solution in my own network-configuration. But yes: I'm used to root privileges :)

Du solltest den entsprechenden Port deiner Firewall mal frei schalten
