I've heard they actually DO exist. However, finding them is like looking for a needle in a hay stack

My Core I7 running 8 instanced of Rosetta@home, runs perfectly. I only have 8 gigs of ram in it, running Windows 7, and I have 0 problems. 8gb should be enough for anyone really

in addition to running malware bytes. i would also suggest running rkill.com before running malware bytes. you can google rkill.com and download it. it kills all processes except those that windows needs to run, so any anti-spyware program is as effective as it can be. best of luck

I've noticed some users have systems with 8 GPUs. I have been thinking of getting my own system with 8 GPUs but I am curious to anyone with such a setup. are these systems of a standard ATX configuration or what? Also if they are on an ATX box, what motherboards are being used? what cases? and is there anything special about the about the GPUs themselves? i noticed most of the are GTX 295's but they take two slots, and i don't think there is a 16 slot ATX case in existence. or does a single 295 register as two cards in boinc? thanks!
27) Message boards : Number crunching : quadro cards... (Message 1082553)

I am curious as to what kind of crunchers these are. I ask because i see a few Quadro cards that use pci-e 1x on tiger direct. Would be a good way to squeeze another gpu into my computer. I am going to get rid of my ATI card eventually too and replace it with some type of geforce card, but what about running the quadro as well? I just don;t want to dump a few hundred bucks into one and have it only turn out 6 work units a day

thanks!

Steve

The only computer on mine that does have a lid on is an old dell I have. Its an odd case that kinda splits in two down the middle. If it wasn't for that, it would be left open

Just curious, can you set seti to only use the GPU, while the CPU does Rosetta or another boinc project?

To follow up on my original thread, I am looking for a comparison chart or something so i can figure out the average time it takes to do a work unit on a 9500 GT VS say a GTX 450. and ideas?

I work for a hotel company, and I go to many of the hotels and do various maintenance on their computers. I'm not surprised, but i've seen much worst. for instance, i saw a mouse who made a home in a workstation once. probably didn't do a lot for the airflow in that box!

I have an old Athlon 1700+ sitting around. It once ran seti@home but now requires more ram to do so. It can support 2GB, but i just decided to turn it into my moms email and internet computer instead.
However, i was browsing around on tigerdirect today and i found this...
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5771288&CatId=319
seems like a good little card. though it surprised me there was a geforce 9500 GT in PCI form, and not AGP. If i were to drop this in along with some more ram for that box, would it be worth it? or would i be a better idea to just put that money towards a new box?

It is the Pentium 4 with the geforce 210. I did manage to fix the issue on my own. I don't think it was actually an issue at all. I didn't realize that under advanced -> preferences to put the check in use gpu when computer is in use. so i never actually saw CUDA running. many thanks!

Hello. I have done my own research on this, and for the bleeping life of me, i cannot get this to work! I have created a new cc_config.xml file and placed it in c:\Documents and settings\all users\Application data\Boinc how ever, boinc still uses only 2 threds instead of 3.
this is what my xml file looks like
<cc_config>
<options>
<ncpus>3</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>
what am i doing wrong. The only thing i can think of is my rig is old, but has a decently new video card... I have no clue. thanks for your help!

So, heres what's going on. My computer has a P4 640 @ 3.2. Its a dell, so i can not OC it. And well, in terms of preformance, i am not happy with it. So I am thinking of putting together an Athlon x2 5000+, and hopefully bump it up to 3Ghz or so. And yes, i will run Prime 95 and a few other apps to insure the CPU is stable. But does anyone run an OCed system to run BOINC and run it 24 houres? will it hurt the processor anymore than if it wasen;t over clocked? thanks for any imput

Your in toronto? Can you not get high speed? I think Rogers and Sympatico offer a cheap braodband plan (128 down/64 up) for $20/month not the fastest thing, but a lot better than dial up!
Sympatico does have a 1 gig bandwidth cap though
